next_to_normal: Tony and Steve facing off (Tony/Steve)
* A lot of Avengers: Age of Ultron stuff in advance of Comic-Con, including some plotty details, several photos, and more about Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and the Vision. Plus, Scarlett Johansson talks about Black Widow, and how they are hiding her baby bump on screen.

* Kevin Feige also addressed the Edgar Wright/Ant-Man thing. I will say, I think he is sincere that it wasn't "the big evil studio" being "too scared at the outside-the-box creative vision." I imagine that any limiting of Wright's ~vision was simply that Wright wanted to do something that didn't fit with the direction of the larger MCU.

* Marvel Comics also had a big news week (including the female Thor announcement), but The Colbert Report's introduction of Sam Wilson as the new Captain America is especially worth watching.

* Here's a teaser for Homeland season 4. Also, the show's executive producers are delusional: "I'm biased, but I don't know how you can look at the last six or seven episodes we did last season and not say Homeland is one of the best shows on television." O RLY?

* Julie Plec talks about what to expect in season 6 of The Vampire Diaries.

* Great piece on the "weird beauty" of Snowpiercer. Spoilery, but also contains this truth: "It turns moviegoers into proselytizers: Once you’ve seen it, you can’t shut the fuck up." LOL yep. Except you can't really talk about it without spoiling it, so you're basically like, "FUCK. JUST GO SEE IT OKAY."

* I did not even realize a thing called American Ninja Warrior existed, but Kacy Catanzaro is a motherfucking badass, yo.

You guys. YOU GUYS. Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell have set up a Kickstarter page to fund a Veronica Mars movie.

MAKE THIS HAPPEN, PEOPLE. Go pledge. Right now. They need at least $2 million for this to go forward. The news has only been out for about half an hour, and they've already raised over $30,000 OMG SINCE I STARTED TYPING THIS POST, IT'S NOW UP TO $55,000, which is a pretty great start. And not only would this be an awesome reward for loyal VM fans, it's also a great test to see if Kickstarter can work on this large of a scale. Just think of the fan-supported projects we could inspire if it's successful.

Thinking of awesome things people have done for the love meme reminded me about Galentine's Day, which was SO MUCH FUN last year.

In the words of the adorable Leslie Knope, founder of Galentine's Day:

What’s Galentine’s Day? Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home and we just come and kick it breakfast-style. Ladies celebratin’ ladies... If you look inside your bags you will find a few things: A bouquet of hand crocheted flower pens, a mosaic portrait of each of you made from the crushed bottles of your favorite diet soda, and a personalized 5,000-word essay on why you are all so awesome.

In that spirit, this is my official Galentine’s Day party post! Galentine's Day is celebrated with frittatas (which you will have to take care of yourself), gifts and essays on why we're all awesome.

Since I am getting a late start this year, I'm a bit more limited in gifting, but here's the plan:

1. Comment with up to three screencaps of your choice. (Doesn't have to be a fandom I'm familiar with, since you're providing caps.)
2. If you don't know where to find screencaps, check my resources list for some options or let me know and I'll see what I can dig up.
3. I will make icons for each of you and post them on or around February 13.
4. Lady-profit!

You don't have to be on my flist (nor do you have to be a gal) to come to the party. If you can see this, you are invited! Happy (early) Galentine's Day!

* When TV worlds collide: Bryan Cranston is directing an episode of The Office.

* Avengers blooper reel! Epic does not even begin to cover it.

* Also, watch a deleted Bruce scene from The Avengers. I felt like the movie definitely needed more Bruce, but I can see why this got cut.

ETA: Deleted Cap scene. ALL THE FEELS.

(At this rate, I'll have seen all the special features before I even get the DVD.)

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. One of my friends from college came to visit, so we had lots of wacky adventures, including:
  • mocking the pathetic White House Christmas Tree (seriously, I didn't think it was possible to be worse than last year, but congratulations, Obamas, you have now presided over the Charlie Browniest White House tree ever),
  • visiting the Old Post Office (which is apparently becoming my go-to place to take visitors),
  • coveting the First Ladies' clothes at the American History Museum,
  • going to see a fun Broadway-parody musical version of A Christmas Carol,
  • eating excessive amounts of French food,
  • bathing in the nostalgia of the Muppets movie, and
  • going to Baltimore to see Noel Coward's Private Lives.
All of which was extremely excellent. Except that tree. God, that awful tree. Even the tourists were making fun of it.

ETA: Recorded here for posterity, the National Christmas Tree:

In other news, I am now officially graduated. (I know I've said that, like, twice now, but this time it's totally over.) I got the results back and I passed my exams, which means I can finally recycle the gigantic stack of papers from all my classes that I've been saving. I thought about tossing them as soon as I handed in my exam, but I figured that would be tempting fate, you know?

FIRST HUNGER GAMES TRAILER!!!

GAH I love how District 12 looks and the reaping scene OMG I got chills and eeeeeeeee!!!

But. Okay. WHAT IS THAT THING ON WOODY HARRELSON'S HEAD? That is a hot mess, is what it is. I suppose we need something to laugh at, otherwise I will SOB THROUGH THIS WHOLE MOVIE.

Hahaha, you guys! You know how last night I did my sorta-kinda drunken gif-rant about the kitchen sink?

And this was after OVER A WEEK of zero progress on the issue. But I post and not twelve hours later? VICTORY!!!!

Yes, kids, my sink is FIXED. The maintenance guy even cleaned it, too! (which is excellent because after a week of other people's dirty dishwater flooding my sink, it was pretty frickin' NASTY)

And it was all made possible by the power of emphatic gif-spamming.

GAH epic midterm is DONE. With 20 minutes to spare, lol. Score one for procrastination, eh? :)

In other news... I BOUGHT A HOUSE!!!!!! OMG YOU GUYS THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING!!!

Okay, technically, I haven't bought it yet, because there's still the home inspection and the mortgage approval and no actual money has exchanged hands. But the seller and I have agreed on the terms and signed a contract - and I got this place for $13,000 less than the other seller was asking. SAME BUILDING SAME LAYOUT, just a different floor. I kind of want to go back to the first lady and be like, "Neener neener, you lose!" but apparently that is frowned upon among grown-ups?

Calling the mortgage lady on Monday, home inspection is on Wednesday... and in between I am turning 27. Yipes!

OMG YOU GUYS! OMG!!!!! I FINISHED MOCKINGJAY!!

I totally have no coherent thoughts, but I thought you should know! (Coherent thoughts forthcoming, just as soon as I stop flailing and crying.)

I have THE WORST headache in the world today, which is possibly because I stayed up until all hours last night to finish Catching Fire. And now, instead of being anything remotely close to productive, I am flailing wildly and bookmarking epic amounts of fic to be read once I finish Mockingjay so I don't get spoiled (anymore than I already am, lol).

So, let's talk about this, people! I'm not even going to bother with the non-spoilery review this time because if the first one didn't convince you to read it, I don't know what's wrong with you. Also, hard to describe the middle of a trilogy without details. Anyway. Moving on.

Okay, kids. I think we need to do this in two parts - first, for those of you who haven't read The Hunger Games, I will attempt to explain to you why you TOTALLY SHOULD without spoilers. Then, y'all who have already read it, LET US SQUEE TOGETHER!

Non-spoilery )

Judging by the pattern of the last few months, my parents are clearly a terrible influence on my blogging. I've been doing pretty well at posting almost every day, except when I go home or they come to visit me, and then I drop off the face of the earth for several days. I actually brought my laptop home with me this time, and had every intention of both posting about my Thanksgiving adventures and keeping up with my reading list. Buuuuut I ended up getting wrapped up in stuff and didn't manage to do it at all.

So, once again, I am playing catch-up. I missed a few epic posts, like [livejournal.com profile] penny_lane_42's Buffy the Vampire Slayer Race Swap, which totally makes me want to do some kind of casting swap, but I am without ideas! I also spent much of last night reading through nearly SIXTEEN HUNDRED COMMENTS on [livejournal.com profile] gabrielleabelle's Unpopular Opinions Sanctuary Post.

Oh, and speaking of [livejournal.com profile] gabrielleabelle, she's getting published in this collection of Whedonverse essays, which is currently scheduled for release on my birthday. I AM JUST SAYING. :)

Paging [livejournal.com profile] snickfic! (And anyone else who enjoys old school sci-fi hilarity, but I'm pretty sure you're the only one who's going to care.)

Drop whatever it is you're doing and go watch SeaQuest season 3, episode 4. RIGHT NOW FOR SERIOUS. Fast forward through all the Lucas genius-posturing and the gross Ford/Henderson flirting and get to the part where OMG FORD DANCES!!!!! (HOW IS IT I DIDN'T REMEMBER THIS SCENE?? OMGGG!!!!)

And it's not like Angel dancing, which is hilariously - but intentionally - bad. It's... I think it's supposed to be impressive? I can't even describe it, but OMG RIDICULOUS. It just made me go into convulsive giggle fits. BRB gotta go rewind and watch it again.

First, WHEEEEE!!! Google has enabled multiple account sign-in! This has always been a pain in the ass for me, because I keep my RL email and my fandom email separate. I know, I could just use email forwarding, but my fandom email is also my "junk" email, the one I use to sign up for things that I don't want cluttering my inbox, so forwarding it all to one inbox would kinda defeat the purpose. Also, it wouldn't resolve the g-chat issue, in that I use my RL email to chat with RL friends, and fandom email to chat with fandom friends, and again, I like those separate, but it means having to switch back and forth to talk to different people.

But hallelujah, Google has answered my prayers and now all is possible. It is a good day.

Also, I saw this interview with Greg Berlanti, the creator of a new show called No Ordinary Family. This interests me because (1) superhero family (it seems kind of like a live-action version of The Incredibles, which I love) and (2) Julie Benz! I am curious enough to check it out in the fall. Anyone heard anything else about it?
