Hope everyone had a nice weekend. One of my friends from college came to visit, so we had lots of wacky adventures, including:
  • mocking the pathetic White House Christmas Tree (seriously, I didn't think it was possible to be worse than last year, but congratulations, Obamas, you have now presided over the Charlie Browniest White House tree ever),
  • visiting the Old Post Office (which is apparently becoming my go-to place to take visitors),
  • coveting the First Ladies' clothes at the American History Museum,
  • going to see a fun Broadway-parody musical version of A Christmas Carol,
  • eating excessive amounts of French food,
  • bathing in the nostalgia of the Muppets movie, and
  • going to Baltimore to see Noel Coward's Private Lives.
All of which was extremely excellent. Except that tree. God, that awful tree. Even the tourists were making fun of it.

ETA: Recorded here for posterity, the National Christmas Tree:

In other news, I am now officially graduated. (I know I've said that, like, twice now, but this time it's totally over.) I got the results back and I passed my exams, which means I can finally recycle the gigantic stack of papers from all my classes that I've been saving. I thought about tossing them as soon as I handed in my exam, but I figured that would be tempting fate, you know?

O..............M..................G!

That looks like a misshapen hoop skirt monstrosity that some 3rd graded sewed together. Actually, I'm going to save that picture and look at it every time I need a good laugh! Surely they can do better than that!

OMG - THAT TREE, I KNOW - we went and saw it this weekend too (Saturday night) and couldn't believe how gimpy it was. I mean, last year's fell over, so it does still have a ways to go before being the worst, but... come on. The gov. people I was with were discussing that the reason it is so bad is because the Nat. Park service is in charge of it, but I dunno. And the creche! Did you see the terrifying life-size plastic creche figures?

Sounds like a fun weekend though! And congrats on being officially, all-the-way, completely-for-sure done with school!

I once saw some special on the White House, about how huge the staff is, and how meticulously planned every flower arrangement, bow, napkin ring, crystal, silverware etc is, because it's the face of the nation and everything is about presentation, and how many people work tirelessly on tiny tiny details............... Then they basically throw a fishing net with lights over a tree and call it decorated. Why bother, lol? I know a huge tree can't be easy to decorate, but come on.

Ew, that tree is awful. Reminds me of one my dad got a few years ago that my uncle could not stop laughing at.

Did you enjoy the Muppet movie? I loved it, and even Seamus said he liked it (he thought he would be bored).

lol. That tree is both a failure as a tree and as an inanimate object.

In less fail-worthy news, congrats on passing your exams. *g*
