As part of my renewed effort at making this dating thing work, I've been advised to "know what I want." I mean, when I try to create a wish list of the qualities/characteristics that I want my ideal guy to have, I typically get as far as "intelligent, good sense of humor... uh... likes Buffy?" and give up. I am all like, "I DON'T KNOOOOOOW. I DON'T HAVE A ~TYPE." Even though I totally do. I just don't really know what it is?

But, as we all know, I have FAR TOO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT FICTIONAL CHARACTERS. So I figured, maybe that's a place to start? Figure out what I like about these particular characters I envisage as my future husbands, and see what they have in common!

Before I get into my own reactions, I shall direct you to HitFix's Chuck vs. the Retrospective Interview (and yes, that is five separate links) with series creators Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak. After seeing the finale, I was actually really glad I'd read all of it (as well as watched clips of the show's best moments) because SO MUCH of the finale was callbacks to the pilot episode and season 1 (which I haven't seen in quite a while) that I appreciated the refresher course.

In which I borrow heavily from the comments on my last post )

The series finale of Chuck really needs a proper reaction post, but I am just feeling TOO MANY FEELINGS right now. I am happy and sad and nostalgic and conflicted and flaily.

Anyone? Coherency?

TV Thoughts

In an effort to post something else besides icons (sorry, it's what my brain can handle best right now!), let's talk about TV. I already did a recap of new shows I'm watching, but we haven't checked in on the old gang yet this season, which is now one-third over already. (Where does the time go?)

I will most likely have to do some sort of flail-filled reaction post to the season finales of my favorite shows, but for now, I leave you with a linkspam:

* Chuck has been renewed for a 13-episode season 5! Wooo! (Especially since the season finale is called "Chuck vs. the Cliffhanger.") It's also the final season, sadly, but it's three seasons longer than I ever expected it to get, so I'm just gonna be thankful for this.

* From the "I'll watch it so [livejournal.com profile] pocochina doesn't have to" file: an analysis of how similar Aaron Sorkin's new pilot is to his other shows. The verdict? Jury's still out. Comparing the mentor/BFF relationship between two female characters to Dana and Natalie on Sports Night is promising. On the other hand, "he just has too much integrity" reaaaaaally worries me.

* Here's a list of female-driven TV pilots in consideration for next season. Not many I really have a desire to watch, although the zombie one sounds kinda fun. Also kinda WTFy that the article describes women as "bitchy" and "slutty" in the taglines, like, what is the message of this article? "Hey, female characters are awesome, but we don't actually respect them!"

* 40 things that will make you feel old. The Clarissa one really hurts.

Well, I think I'm getting better at this picspam thing. Still not done the midterm.

Linkspam because I'm too tired to do anything else:

* More details on SMG's new show. I gotta say, this is not a show I would watch if SMG weren't in it, but I am nothing if not loyal, lol.

* Kristen Bell also has a new show in the works. See above.

* Here's a peek at two new Office characters for next season, but no casting news yet.

* Friday Night Lights' final season airs on NBC starting April 15th. But the DVD comes out... April 5th. I think I know why NBC's the fourth-rated network...

* This week's Community episode involves Dungeons & Dragons.

Sarah Lancaster is pregnant! Too bad Ellie was pregnant this season.

More spam!

I went to see The Social Network last night, which I really liked, but I was out past my bedtime and so I'm absurdly lazy today. So although I have a ton of reviews still to post, I'm taking the easy way out and doing another linkspam.

Also picspam, so it's under a cut )

Fall premieres are upon us. This generally means that I watch way too much TV than is healthy for a couple weeks, but it all settles down in October. :) This year, I'm not really interested in many new shows, but I figured I'd throw in a few "I watched it so you don't have to" reviews for the ones I was mildly curious about, but performed about as expected. Thoughts from last night under the cuts.

First, thanks for the advice on new shows. It looks like the winners are Rome, Six Feet Under, and Dexter, in order of popularity. We'll see how far I get in watching them, and then maybe do another poll, lol.

I know, I know, you've all been waiting for my reaction to the Chuck season finale. :-P Sorry, I have Monday classes now, and they're fucking with my Chuck. I actually did watch last week's episode, but wanted to rewatch before talking about it, so here's my belated thoughts on the last three episodes.

Okay, this is kind of brilliant/hilarious: Chuck, with all the characters' genders flipped. I love the casting. Alison Brie as Chuck? Yes, please. Kristen Bell as Captain Awesome? OMG!!

Which raises some interesting thoughts, actually. I mean, I would pay huge amounts of money to see a female version of Casey. Like, HUGE. That goes without saying. But the thing I actually enjoyed about Chuck/Sarah in the beginning was the role reversal - Chuck is most often the damsel in distress and Sarah is the kick-ass hero who saves him. I love even more that they've grown into a couple who kicks ass together and saves each other's lives, but I don't think it would have been nearly as appealing if Chuck were a nerdy girl who always ended up in danger and had to be saved by the manly man CIA agent all the time (who, of course, she promptly falls in love with, because that's what women do with men who save their lives, right?).

I've been watching Less Than Perfect on Hulu (I've now watched all of season 1 - which is all that's there - and must search for the rest via other sources), and so I've seen that Friskies commercial at least fifteen times now. You know which one I'm talking about? The trippy "Across the Universe for cats" one? I actually played it for Chelsea, but she was totally unimpressed. Me: "Chelsea, look at the kitty! Doesn't that look like fun?" Chelsea: *withering look*

In other news, I've discovered that I can adjust the volume on my work computer by kicking the tower. Which is handy, I suppose, except that if the volume would stop cutting out all on its own, I wouldn't have to kick it to get it to come back on.

I'm going to visit my parents for the weekend, and my mom called yesterday to tell me that Patches (their cat) had peed on my bed. It's like she knows I'm coming...

Oooh! But good news for Chuck fans!

I haven't done a Chuck post in a while (aside from some Zachary Levi squee), so let's talk about how this extra-six-episodes arc is shaking out.

It's like good cop/bad cop, but with TV. First, Chuck. Well, that definitely felt like a season finale, didn't it?

And now, "how to write really badly," brought to you by last week's Bones.
