next_to_normal: Tony Stark wearing sunglasses (Tony shades)
* A long - like, three parts long - interview with Dan Harmon about Community and his other show that I don't watch.

* Josh Radnor talks about HIMYM ending. And (thank God!) Krysta Rodriguez is no longer starring in HIMYD, so once again I am FREE.

* My thoughts on The Good Wife's latest bombshell are pretty well summed up here. I applaud their ability to keep things under wraps without feeling the need to promote the "OMG moment" to death (looking at you, Scandal). Here's what the creators and cast had to say, the creators' letter directly to the fans, as well as an interview with you-know-who.

* Hettienne Park addresses some (spoilery) Hannibal-related outrage. #notforeating

* Someone has too much time on their hands: The Office Time Machine collects all the pop culture references from the show in the year of your choice.

* Jack's back and Chloe's gone full Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in the new 24: Live Another Day trailer.

* Lizzy Caplan talks about playing a character based on a real person on Masters of Sex. She also does a fantastic impression of her Israeli uncle.

* Here's a write-up of the Agents of SHIELD PaleyFest panel.

* Anthony Mackie talks about playing the Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

* I think my favorite part of this Chris Evans interview is all the quotes from the other Avengers actors who are pissed off about dieting. Or possibly RDJ mentioning that Chris "invited Susan and I back to their house to get in the Jacuzzi... that’s a vague memory, but that’s what I’d like for you to print."

(Also, "My kid believes that Captain America is real." Uh... how does he explain the fact that Daddy appears in movies with Captain America?)

* LMAO this Winter Soldier interview is hysterical.

"Who's the best looking superhero?"
Sebastian: "Iron -"
Mackie: "Falcon!"
Sebastian: "...Man." [and then Sebastian's FACE OMG what a side-eye]

Chris: "Hemsworth."
Scarlett: "Oh, really? Chris Hemsworth?"
Chris: "Did I say that way too quickly?... Is it weird that I said Hemsworth? It's weird. It's on film now."

(I also think it's adorable that Chris and Scarlett consistently answered with the actors rather than the characters.)

* Some close-up shots of Avengers: Age of Ultron filming in Italy, featuring Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. What is it exactly about Quicksilver that makes him look SO TERRIBLE in film adaptations? (The last paragraph of that article... I can't even.)

* Here's the trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past. The only X-Men movie I've seen is First Class and my only comics exposure is from Avengers crossovers, so I have next to no idea what this movie is actually about. Jennifer Lawrence is very blue?

* This is the first review I've seen for the Veronica Mars novel, a sequel of sorts to the movie, and it doesn't sound very promising.

* I meant to post this last week, but it got lost in my Pocket links, so if you haven't already seen it, James Marsters talked about his Spike graphic novel. Have to say, I am not impressed by the preview. He may have said the lines, but James doesn't write great Spike dialogue.

* RELEVANT TO MY READING LIST'S INTERESTS: A PSA about Villain Attraction Disorder.
next_to_normal: Steve Rogers from CA: TWS (Steve yellow)
* Patton Oswalt will be appearing on Agents of SHIELD as a comic book character.

* Here's an interview with the author of the Ms. Marvel comics, which features the first female Muslim superhero.

* Yes, another Captain America trailer. This one is different, I promise! (I swear to God you will hear my screaming for miles around when I see this movie.)

* Meanwhile Fox is already planning sequels for movies it hasn't made yet.

* I absolutely agree that a Veronica Mars movie trying to have broad appeal would not have been Veronica Mars. There is absolutely nothing wrong with making a niche movie for a particular audience. Also, here is the cast talking about the movie's big moments and an interview with Rob Thomas.

* I am confused as to why the trailer for The Giver is all in color. Wasn't that kind of a huge plot point of the book?

* Pixar is making a sequel to The Incredibles.

* Masters of Sex is coming back in July, and Betsy Brandt will be joining the cast.

* Parks and Recreation has been renewed for another season.

* There's now a website that has quantitatively resolved all TV arguments (with graphs!). What on earth will we do with all the free time?

* New Mad Men photos. Plus, a write-up of the PaleyFest panel with the cast.

* Casting a white Tiger Lily is only the latest in "racist things found in adaptations of Peter Pan." I keep thinking maybe this time Hollywood has learned its lesson, and yet they keep managing to prove me wrong!

* If you haven't been convinced to watch Enlisted yet, maybe this will help. Also, the best "save our show" campaign idea probably ever.

* Billy Joel sang with Jimmy Fallon and now I desperately want an iPad. (And yes, those two things are related.)

* Alternate Jennifer Lawrence scene from American Hustle. Which I still haven't seen so I don't really know the context, but I kind of think she's not really acting, and this is just what JLaw does when she is alone in her house? Or maybe that's just me.

next_to_normal: Captain America giving Black Widow a boost; text: team work (teamwork)
* Matthew McConaughey explains the origin of his signature phrase.

* An interview with the creator of True Detective talking about season 1 and that finale.

* Ever wondered which of the cast of Veronica Mars can fit the most marshmallows in their mouth? Wonder no more.

* Which Veronica Mars character are you? I am Logan, which means I am snarky, occasionally violent, and madly in love with Kristen Bell. Sounds about right. Now if only I were the super-rich child of Hollywood actors (except... y'know, better, non-murdery ones than Logan's parents!).

* Check out the teaser for HBO's The Normal Heart, starring Mark Ruffalo and Matt Bomer.

* I haven't watched The Originals since the first couple episodes, but I'm surprised to hear that a major character is leaving the show.

* Neil Patrick Harris talks about his new Broadway show, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and many other things in this profile.

* Adrian Pasdar will be guest-starring on Agents of SHIELD as a character from the Hulk comics.

* Scarlett Johansson says her pregnancy won't impact the filming of Avengers: Age of Ultron (which is a good thing, since we know what Joss does to actresses who get unexpectedly pregnant).

* No surprise, Joss Whedon directed one of the post-credits scenes for Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

* Chris Evans clarifies his Marvel contract - he's not trying to get out of it, he swears! He just wants to ~direct more. Also, apparently his Thor: The Dark World cameo didn't count, so it looks like he'll be around for at least Cap 3 and Avengers 3?

* As for non-Marvel Chris Evans news, his film Snowpiercer FINALLY has a US release date.

* Zachary Levi is crowdfunding Nerd HQ this year, so if you want more Tom Hiddleston raptor impersonations, go donate!

* In defense of talking funny, or why accents are awesome.

* New trailer for Orphan Black, which returns April 19, and one for 24: Live Another Day, which premieres May 5.

* Cristin Milioti talks about HIMYM and addresses the theory that the Mother is dead.

* I'm a big fan of competence porn, so I enjoyed this piece on why we like characters who are good at their jobs.

* Matthew Weiner talks about the final season of Mad Men, and again in another interview here. There's also a great piece on Elisabeth Moss, who would be perfect if only she weren't a Scientologist.

* Amazon has picked up four of its pilots for series, including Transparent, which is the only one I watched (it was really good).

* Laura Benanti will be guest-starring on The Good Wife.

* Another interview with Emmy Rossum about Shameless.

* The other two detectives talk about working with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in True Detective. Also, the real life case that may put the "true" in the title.

* And inspired by True Detective's season finale, an interesting look at how the internet has impacted our expectations for finales. (No TD spoilers.)

* Another Game of Thrones trailer is out. Also, the showrunners basically tied George R. R. Martin to a chair and made him tell them how the series ends.

* Here's an Oscar diary from the person we all wish we were - Jennifer Lawrence's BFF.

* I am extremely curious how they plan to make a Fantastic Four reboot that is "very grounded." It's the FANTASTIC FOUR. Isn't that kind of like calling the Guardians of the Galaxy characters "realistic"?

* Chris Hemsworth talked about Avengers: Age of Ultron. Plus, the first videos of production in Johannesburg have surfaced.

* I confess, I have completely lost track of which Captain America teasers I've linked to and which ones I haven't (clearly I am too dazzled by Chris Evans' face), so here have some more.

* If you really can't wait until Friday, you can now watch the first 8 minutes of Veronica Mars online.
next_to_normal: Steve Rogers, looking down; text: so much older than I can take (Steve older)
HI GUYS. I went to San Diego and didn't tell you. And I missed SO much TV, including the Oscars, which I've had to piece together from GIFs. (Funny story: we actually kind of considered having an Oscar watching party, but we're all idiots from the eastern and central time zones who forgot that it started at 5PM on the west coast, so we're out at a restaurant eating dinner and someone's like, "Uh, guys, the Oscars are kinda half over...?") Not that I saw any of the nominated films, except Gravity. You better believe that we were Travoltifying our names when we were bored at work, though. Luka Bailerey, at your service, btw.

We also forgot that Tuesday was Mardi Gras, and apparently San Diego REALLY loves Mardi Gras, so... that was interesting. Certain coworkers of mine now refer to me as "Princess."

ANYWAY. Let me know if I missed anything awesome on the interwebs. Now I'm back and have oodles and oodles of links that you've probably already seen. Separated into categories for easier organization.

Oscar stuff first:

* Lupita Nyong'o gave an amazing speech about beauty and skin color, and then continued her flawlessness with her acceptance speech. Plus, visual proof that she can (and does) rock any color dress.

* Anna Kendrick kept a diary of her Oscar weekend.

* An interview with an Oscar seat-filler reveals what goes on behind the cameras.

* Ellen interviewed the winners on her show. Here's Cate Blanchett and Lupita part 1 and part 2. The pizza delivery guy also went on Ellen to collect his tip.

* Tired of Frozen's Oscar-winning song, "Let It Go"? Then this is the parody for you.

TV stuff:

* Ground Floor has been renewed for a second season, while The Mindy Project has been renewed for a third.

* Community's Joel McHale and Jim Rash take on True Detective.

* FML. I thought I was done with HIMYM, but now Krysta Rodriguez is starring in the spin-off, which means I'm gonna have to watch it.

* Julia Stiles has a new legal drama coming to TNT.

* John Oliver's new HBO show, Last Week Tonight, has a trailer.

* Emmy Rossum talks about season 4 of Shameless, which has been fantastic.

Marvel stuff:

* I'm all for Chris Evans pursuing more directing gigs, but I hope he finds projects he can also star in, because otherwise I'd miss him as an actor.

* Speaking of, OMG this Captain America: The Winter Soldier clip! My bb! \o/ Plus, here's two new ads with new footage, and some speculation about the future of S.H.I.E.L.D. (and therefore Agents of...) in the MCU.

* Scarlett Johansson is pregnant, which will almost certainly impact filming for Avengers: Age of Ultron.

* Other Age of Ultron news: Marvel is locking in Thomas Kretschmann, who will appear as Baron von Strucker in AoU, in case they want to use him again, and adding Korean actress Kim Soo Hyun to the cast, in a yet to be announced supporting role.

* Not really a link, but I finally saw Thor: The Dark World. I don't have much to say about it because, other than Thor and Loki being adorably brotherly, I don't really have ~feels? Thor is probably the least interesting Avenger to me, Thor/Jane does nothing for me, and I'm mostly in it for the supporting characters, so as long as there's enough laughs, I don't mind that the plot's a bit of a mess. But yay for Zachary Levi joining the MCU!

* Marvel is airing a one-hour special on ABC about... themselves, basically. It's a one-hour commercial for their TV show and the 3 new movies coming out in the next year and a half. Which I will watch because I am a sucker for new footage.

Movie, musical, and movie musical stuff:

* Veronica Mars has been added to the Kindle Worlds legal fanfiction list. Plus, lots of photos from the movie (one week, you guys!). You can actually watch the first two minutes of the movie, but before you get excited, it's basically a "previously on" summary of the TV series.

* Steven Spielberg wants to remake West Side Story. I know people get tetchy about remaking classics, but maybe this time they'll cast lead actors who can actually sing?

* Speaking of movie musical remakes, Quvenzhane Wallis is freakin' adorable in the trailer for the new Annie.

* Into the Woods is getting an off-Broadway revival. Not sure how I feel about this "stripped-down" version.

next_to_normal: Philip in disguise, wearing a hat and glasses (Philip (Americans))
* The new Captain America: The Winter Soldier TV spot has generated speculation that a certain someone is going to die. Also, Chris Evans was the Grand Marshal at the Daytona 500 this weekend. (What a dork.)

* The four Marvel Netflix series will be filmed in New York.

* Drew Pearce talks about the Mandarin short, All Hail the King.

* In non-MCU Marvel movies, I'm not sure we really need this much Spider-Man in our lives?

* Dear God, NBC is really scraping the bottom of the barrel by bringing back Heroes, of all things. Okay, sound off: how many canceled NBC series can YOU think of that you'd rather see return than Heroes?

* Michelle Monaghan talks about True Detective and its female characters. It would be so awesome if next season had two female leads.

* Doctor Who is injecting a little diversity into its cast with a new companion.

* Jeremy Jordan, Anna Kendrick, and Richard LaGravenese talk about adapting The Last Five Years as a film.

* Peter Dinklage already has a post-Game of Thrones job in the works on a new HBO series.

* I would so totally be on board for a Farscape spin-off/sequel TV movie.

* Ordinarily I would have no interest in a Godzilla movie, but... Bryan Cranston, yo.

* Matthew Rhys talks about the new season of The Americans, starting TONIGHT! Plus, an interview with the show's creators.

* With The LEGO Movie proclaiming "Everything is Awesome," now is a good time for a cautionary tale. If you don't talk to your children about LEGO, who will?

* Adam Driver is not who I would've expected for a Star Wars villain, but okay.

* I haven't watched it, because I'd rather see it in context, but you can watch Hannibal's opening scene from the season 2 premiere if you want.

* Behind the scenes photos from Orange is the New Black season 2.

* George Clooney is pranking Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and has sucked Matt Damon into his schemes. George is the best at pranks.

* This is how they're going to continue Mockingjay without Philip Seymour Hoffman.

* And here is your daily dose of Clark Gregg interviews about Agents of SHIELD. I gotta say, if this show goes down, it's certainly not going to be for lack of an enthusiastic cast tirelessly promoting it.

* Captain America: The Winter Soldier will apparently have a big impact on events in Agents of SHIELD and set up Avengers: Age of Ultron. Which, I mean, we kind of already assumed, given the way Marvel works, but there's an awfully pretty photo of Chris Evans at that link.

* Verrrrrry interesting Age of Ultron casting news. It's not clear whether Marvel is adding a new character (because what this movie really needs is MORE characters, right?) or... repurposing an existing one. (And yes, that is deliberately vague to avoid spoiling.)

* New Hannibal trailer. *screaming*

* Wow, Philip Seymour Hoffman has died.

* Dylan Farrow finally speaks out about being sexually abused by her adoptive father, Woody Allen. (For reference, here is the original 1992 Vanity Fair article that first publicized the allegations.)

* On Super Bowl Sunday, a powerful ad from the National Congress of American Indians on the name of Washington's football team.

* Jesse Eisenberg will play Lex Luthor in the Man of Steel sequel, and Jeremy Irons is Alfred.

* Michael Pitt will be appearing on Hannibal.

* Geoff Stults talks about his new comedy, Enlisted, which so far I am really enjoying. Stults plays the oldest of three Army brothers - the other two are Veronica Mars' Chris Lowell and Suburgatory's Parker Young, both hilarious here - all serving in the same rear-detachment unit of misfits and screwups.

* Anna Kendrick talks about filming Into the Woods.

* Here is the list of theaters where you can see Veronica Mars.

* Chris Evans talking about Snowpiercer. He also talked about Captain America: The Winter Soldier, plus here's more about all the different shields used in the film.

* Clark Gregg talks about Coulson and Agents of SHIELD.

* Looks like there will probably be a third Captain America movie, assuming this one does well, which it will. (Also, so much for the "they're killing off Steve Rogers" rumors?) And Thor 3 is happening for sure.

* Thor: The Dark World is coming out on DVD soon, hence all the special features popping up online. (Including an adorable interview with my TV boyfriend Zac Levi.)

* And in case you ever wondered what Tom Hiddleston would look like as Thor, here are some gifs from his screen test. (Tom is also here with the answer to why the villains in movies are always Brits.)

* A clip from Chris Evans' movie Snowpiercer. I admit, the Tumblr comments cracked me up. Also: please give us this movie.

* Orange is the New Black season 2 casting news.

* Another Hannibal season 2 trailer. Hold me.

* Lots of pictures from season 4 of Game of Thrones.

* I'm not sure we really needed an oral history of She's All That, but the fact that this movie is 15 years old makes me feel old.

* A nice piece about Seth Meyers leaving SNL.

* If you've been hoping to get relationship advice from the creator of Community, now is your chance.

* There will be a sequel to Pitch Perfect, and Elizabeth Banks is directing it..

* Anyone still care about How I Met Your Mother? I admit, the 200th episode (in which we get the backstory of the Mother) was the best episode the show's done in a long, long time, but it only reaffirms my belief that they should've gone there WAY sooner and spent WAY more time getting to know her.

* True Detective is getting a second season, with an entirely different cast. Which is understandable (you're not going to get Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey to stick around for years, so why even try) and would make sense for a procedural show - instead of a "case of the week" you have a new case every season - except that, like, there is zero emphasis on the case? The storytelling is ALL about the characters, and the murder they are solving is basically just to give them something to do while they talk to each other. So... interesting choice here, and I am curious to see if season 2 will be as captivating. Anyone else watching?

I am a day late in posting this, because I did not anticipate that yesterday's office holiday party would be OFF THE CHAIN. This year, the organization did away with the traditional office lunch for unknown (but probably scandalous) reasons, and just gave us the afternoon off. So some of my coworkers decided to have our own holiday lunch at this German bar where beer comes in three sizes: half-liter, liter, and DAS BOOT.

SEVEN HOURS LATER, when we were paying our second tab (because they made us close out the tab when they switched from lunch to dinner, lol), the bartender jokingly asked us if we would like to see a breakfast menu. We kinda laughed, but also kinda wanted eggs and bacon.

While I suspect a rambling post written under those circumstances would have been HILARIOUS, I also kind of had serious thoughts about this one, so... here we are.

Today's - er, yesterday's topic comes from [personal profile] pocochina, and remember that I am still taking requests. Tell me what to talk about!

* CAPTAIN AMERICA TRAILER!!! So excited for this, you do not even know. Chris Evans, you are presh. Marry me.

* LOL the director of Thor: The Dark World is already disowning the post-credits Guardians of the Galaxy teaser.

* Tom Hiddleston is still doing impressions, this time of Muppets. But watch out, Tom, because Alan Rickman is onto you, dude.

* And Ben Kingsley apparently did something mysterious with Marvel. More Mandarin?

* Neil Patrick Harris and family once again win Halloween. Everybody else, just go home.

* Vince Gilligan addresses some Breaking Bad fan theories. Also, I'm losing track, did I post this interview already?

* Homeland and Masters of Sex have both been renewed for another season. While the less said about Homeland the better at this point, I am really enjoying Masters of Sex. Definitely my favorite new series of the season.

Speaking of TV, we might as well check in on the other new series:

I am still watching Mom, Agents of SHIELD, Trophy Wife, The Crazy Ones, and The Michael J. Fox Show. Mom and Trophy Wife have both improved quite a bit, while The Crazy Ones and The Michael J. Fox Show have not. AND YET STILL BETTER THAN HIMYM WTF IS EVEN HAPPENING WITH THAT TRAIN WRECK. Agents of SHIELD is still running mainly on potential, but I'm in that one for the long haul.

Also, I have gotten back into Elementary. If you'll recall, I watched the first episode a while back, but didn't feel compelled to watch more. I'm almost through season 1 now, and it's quite good?
next_to_normal: (Avengers crack team)
So, this is what happens when I go away for the weekend while Comic-Con is happening? I mean, HEIDI IN NEXT TO NORMAL obviously takes priority, but... yikes.

* Jake Gyllenhaal is no longer playing a Prince in Into the Woods, possibly being replaced by Broadway vet Billy Magnussen. If only Johnny Depp would have a scheduling conflict...

* Ever wonder why all those Hollywood blockbusters seem like the same movie? It's because they are.

* Lots of cool detail work happening in Catching Fire. This just made me SO EXCITED for the movie to come out. I... kind of think it will be better than the first one?

* I have been waiting for someone to put this together since I started watching Game of Thrones, lol.

* Bunheads is officially canceled. :(

* Someone is making 12 Monkeys into a TV series on Syfy. I loved that movie, but... why.

And now Comic-Con:
ExpandThis got REALLY long )

* Following the success of the movie, Les Miserables is, unsuprisingly, coming back to Broadway. Has anyone seen the "reimagined" show? I am torn - I am kind of curious to see what's been changed, but I also don't want to be disappointed if it's TOO reimagined, lol. Speaking of Broadway, I'm going up to New York next weekend with my mom. We're taking our chances at the TKTS booth, but if anyone has recommendations, I'm open. Right now, I'm leaning toward either The Mystery of Edwin Drood or Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

* My bb Jeremy Jordan and Anna Kendrick in a movie version of The Last Five Years! First of all, I am shocked this is happening, because TLFY is not a very well-known show, so I'm not sure what kind of movie audience they'd get (surely not the blockbuster of Les Miserables) although maybe they're counting on the new off-Broadway production to drum up attention? Second, I am curious how they plan to adapt it, given the structure of the show. But mostly: YAY.

* The Americans has been renewed for a second season already. After only four episodes have aired. That's how good it is, people.

* Nifty Catching Fire posters.

* Men and women apparently tweet differently. Women are more frequent users of "emoticons, ellipses (…), expressive lengthening (nooo waaay), repeated exclamation marks, puzzled punctuation (combinations of ? and !), the abbreviation omg, and transcriptions of backchannels like ah, hmm, ugh, and grr." As a frequent offender in allllllllll of those categories, this piqued my interest. I haven't read through the entire study, but the first thing that pops into my head is whether Twitter-speak might be influenced by the culture of more gendered spaces on the internet (compare the predominately female LJ/DW to the predominately male Reddit). We tend to adopt the speech patterns of our social group, and I know that I at least have been very influenced by my fandom experience. (I NEVER USED TO CAPSLOCK SO MUCH. NOW I HAVE ALL THE FEELINGS.)
