I went with Freaks and Geeks, The Wire, and Rome, since those are the ones I plan on watching myself. :D

And The Black Donnellys because I've been thinking about it lately. And because I have an icon for it.

New to you network show: tie between 30 Rock and Freaks and Geeks, but since I've spent the past two days streaming 30 Rock over netflix while doing indentured servitude housework, I'll go with that (stream it!), but I cannot praise Freaks and Geeks enough.

New to you cable show: Dead Like Me. Very much appeals to the sensibilities of a Whedonverse fan, plus Mandy Patinkin.

New to you foreign show: Rome. I have eternal love for frat boy!Marc Antony, and the two fictitious soldier characters they created to ground the historicity of the show are brilliant.

Show you should re-watch: The Black Donnellys. Make Lauren happy.

I'm with [livejournal.com profile] penny_lane_42 all the way across the board except on the re-watch. I picked Sports Night because I've been watching In Plain Sight , The Good Wife and Parenthood and realized three of Sports Night's leading men are in each of these shows (Joshua Malina, Josh Charles and Peter Krause. I haven't watched it since it aired, but I remember really loving the smart writing and excellent acting. I wish I had time for a re-watch, but there's too much TV on this summer!

Freaks and Geeks is fantastic and I also enjoyed the also short lived Undeclared which shared some of the same writers, producers and actors. Both series only lasted a season.

The Wire is gritty and real and beautifully written, acted and directed. The plots are intricate and the characters are fascinating. It's brilliant.

I really enjoyed Rome, too. It's well written and acted. Though the writers played a bit loose with the historical accuracy, it was still fascinating and gorgeous.

Rome. Hands down without a doubt if you have to narrow it all down to just one choice, pick Rome. It is beautiful. The sets/scenery is to die for. The acting is INCREDIBLE. The writing is stunning. Whenever someone asks me to rec them a show, without hesitation, I rec Rome.

The Wire is one of the greatest American novels of recent years. On television. This is as complex, believable, gripping and relevant the medium gets.

You make me choose between Dexter and The Sopranos?! Hmm, maybe I should have checked The Sopranos, as no one else voted for it. :( But then, Dexter is so deliciously evil.

I'd recommend Extras before the UK Office.

As for rewatch, I can't comment, cause I haven't seen any of those, lol.

*giggles*

I did notice...

Some people have done the 30 day meme in one day.

Breaking Bad - Some of the best acting and pacing on tellyvision.
Rome - It's still nowhere near perfect, but 1000x closer than that "Gladiator" crap.

Also (and maybe this is one I just couldn't guess you were already watching) :

Justified - A living testament to how a creator's direct involvement can really make the writing pop. Elmore Leonard on the small screen is still Elmore Leonard.
