01. Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?

Not usually. Too hard to do two things at once, lol. Occasionally, if I'm really into something and I don't want to stop, I'll read while I eat dinner or something (I live alone, so it's not rude, lol).

02. Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?

Horrified. Although I have read some of my mom's old books, with her markings in them from high school, and it's kind of funny (she's a doodler).

03. How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?

Bookmark, but I use the term loosely. I do have a lovely collection of bookmarks from when I was younger, but more often, I'll use a ticket stub, a receipt, a piece of scrap paper, a napkin, or whatever's handy.

04. Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?

Both. I generally prefer fiction, but I do like political memoirs.

05. Hardcopy or audiobooks?

Hardcopy. It's more engaging; my mind wanders if all I'm doing is listening. I only own two audiobooks, both read by James Marsters, and even he can't hold my attention.

06. Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?

I usually try to stop at the end of a chapter, but I can stop in the middle if necessary. The better the book, the more excuses I'll make to read "just a little further, then I'll stop."

07. If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away? Write it down to look it up later? Just try to infer what it means from the rest of the sentence, and keep going?

Inference, usually. If I can't get it from that, I'll either look it up, or if I'm lazy, just skip over it and hope it wasn't important.

08. What are you currently reading?

Neverwhere, by Neil Gaiman. Full disclosure: I have been "reading" this since Christmas. I keep reading it in small chunks and then putting it down and not picking it up again for weeks. It's weird, because I feel like, objectively, I should think it's good - it's well-written, I like fantasy, and I like the premise - but apparently it's not compelling enough that I'm desperate to know what happens next.

09. What is the last book you bought?

The Wordy Shipmates, by Sarah Vowell.

10. Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can read more than one at a time?

I prefer to read one at a time. If a book is kind of sucking, I might take a break and read something else.

11. Do you like re-reading books?

Certain ones. I've reread The Princess Bride more times than I can count. (On my second copy, although to be fair, the first was a hand-me-down, and the cover was falling off when I got it.) The Red Dwarf books I reread because they're hilarious. I tend to go back and reread parts of Lord of the Rings, but I can't remember the last time I read the whole series straight through. I also sometimes enjoy reading books from my childhood to see if they still hold up as an adult.

I took his meme and thank you.

I remember the first time I read "The Lord of the Rings". I was enthralled. I've re-read parts but only re-read the whole series once more.

I know exactly what you mean. I've been doing the same with American Gods. (I started reading it last summer.) It's a really good book, it's just hard to get through because of his style of writing. But I have read/listened to Neverwhere and it's wonderful. I have the unabridged preferred author's text audio book for Neverwhere. I bought it because it's read by Neil Gaiman. (And oh my God, that man's voice...I could listen to him read a grocery list.) Anyway, it is definitely worth it if you make it through the book.
