Here it is! My (mostly) finished condo! Still a few things that need to be done, like grouting the tile in the kitchen and hanging all my pictures, but mostly, it's done!
The neverending saga of the kitchen backsplash seems to have finally reached its conclusion. After buying at least four different samples and looking at probably a dozen more in various stores, I ended up with this one from Home Depot:

We bought it on Saturday afternoon, and it was on the wall by dinnertime. My dad is FAST, yo. He still needs to cut some of the tiles to fit around the edges of the cabinets, and he needs to grout and seal the whole thing, but doesn't it look spiffy?

Why yes, that IS my dad ON TOP OF MY REFRIGERATOR, painting the wall.
So, I decided to do a red accent wall in the kitchen. We went to Lowe's, got three different paint samples, and made some abstract art on the wall to test it out. (You can see one of the samples on the left-hand side of this picture.) We decided we didn't like any of the colors, so my dad decides to MIX THEM ALL TOGETHER AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
(Warning: Do not try this at home. My dad is a professional printer, so the whole "let's mix colors at random and see how it looks" thing is actually a job skill, lol.)
Well, this is what we ended up with:

I kinda think it's a little too pink, but it works for now. Close-up on the hanging rack, which we bought at the Habitat ReSale store for $10:

Moving on to the rest of the place. Here's the dining room:

I am planning to turn that back wall into an art gallery-style thing with my London, Paris, DC, San Francisco, and Bermuda paintings, but we couldn't hang them because I need to get a new frame for one of them.
Anyway, mini office alcove:

Living room:

On Saturday, a Hazmat team showed up to inspect the creek behind my building. Now I'm wondering if it's safe to drink the water:

My bedroom:

That white cabinet on the far side of my bed is actually a kitty port-a-potty:

My mom saw something like it on HGTV and so my dad had to make one. (Story of our lives.) It's made from the old vanity in my bathroom at my parents' house. My dad remodeled the bathroom a couple years ago, and this was a great use for the cabinet, since it has no back. With the doors closed, it looks like a regular piece of furniture. Chelsea goes in the back to do her business, and I can open the doors for easy access to scoop the litter box.
My walk-in closet:

Chelsea is, as they say on Animal Planet, a "tree dweller":

It's sort of sad that this is what I'm most proud of, but my mom and I were SO EXCITED about hanging things on this peg board in my coat closet:

So... who wants to come visit? :)

The place looks great! I'd come visit! A place uncluttered with toys looks so inviting right now.

Just give it a few days and the floor will be covered in cat toys. :-P

Date: Aug. 4th, 2011 05:33 am (UTC)KITTY POTTY IS GENIUS! I'm dying for a cat but someone doesn't want one because he fears litter boxes. If I could show him something neat he could build maybe I could get him to change his mind...

Date: Aug. 4th, 2011 05:25 pm (UTC)In the old place, she got her own closet, which contained the mess (mostly) and gave her some privacy, but I just have two walk-in closets here, so I don't have a small closet just for her. I was planning to use one of these litter boxes, but Chelsea was afraid of it and started peeing on the outside of the box (or inside my packing boxes). :\
The bedding is from Bed Bath & Beyond, but it's probably not in stock anymore. I bought it... hmm, five years ago, maybe? When I got my first apartment. The brand is Bella Bed-in-a-Bag, if you want to check the interwebs.

Date: Aug. 4th, 2011 05:31 pm (UTC)The red/pinkish wall in the kitchen is a good wake-up color and the kitty litter furniture is a great idea. The backsplash picks up the countertop's colors very well!
All moved in and so much done!
