In which I become an HGTV fanatic...

Happy Easter! I had a three day weekend, which means the parental units descended on Friday. We spent much of the weekend visiting Lumber Liquidators, Home Depot, Lowe's, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and various other home improvement stores, looking at flooring, tile, appliances, etc. for the new condo.

Our super-scientific method of choosing the right style of flooring:



As it turns out, though, Chelsea's pretty fickle, and I think she sat on every sample at some point, so we may have to resort to human decision-making. At least we know she'll probably like the wood floors.

Here's the tile I chose for the backsplash in the kitchen, along with different countertop samples. The one on the left is the countertop that's currently there. We're undecided whether we want to change it, but the tile seems to match all three pretty well:



I also bought this kick-ass rug for the living room, which looks like it will match my sofa pillows and general color scheme really well:

My mom also found me a cool wrought-iron kitchen shelf thingy at Habitat, which I would post a picture of, except it was spirited away back to my parents' house for some cleaning and possibly a coat of black paint.

I can't wait to stop renting so I can tear around doing stuff to the house. I think I was an interior decorator in a past life... That or I played way too much Sims. :)

Hahaha, I said to my mom the other day that I have fun playing interior decorator, but then I get so quickly overwhelmed when I have to make so many choices!

Heh, I'll let you in on a secret: they're not actually hardwood floors. It's going to be a laminate floating floor, but it LOOKS like wood, and that's really what matters, right? :)

Hee! It's important that Chelsea approve. I think I like the one on the right with the tile, but it's hard to judge from a picture. Looks like much was done this weekend. :)

Heh, yeah, my mom likes the black countertop, too. The thing is, the countertop that's there is pretty much brand new, so it seems a little silly to replace it. We haven't decided yet whether it's worth the time and money to get a better color...
