All right, I figure just about everyone has seen the news by now (and in case you haven't, read it and weep), but I don't want to grumble alone, so come join me! Who wants to go first?

It is ironic to me that, at this point, I don't think I actually want Joss anywhere near any sort of TV/movie continuation, given what he's chosen to do with the comics. But I still think Buffy with Joss is better than Buffy without Joss. Just... leave it the hell alone, won't you? Let us enjoy what we have without something new coming along to ruin the franchise more than it already is.

ETA: And we have responses from Joss and David Boreanaz.

"There is an active fan base eagerly awaiting this character's return to the big screen."

NO, THERE'S NOT. Geez. WHAT IS WITH ALL THE REMAKES? Remakes of old shows, old movies, old ideas. And there's a difference between a show still having a fanbase and wanting to see a DIFFERENT VERSION OF THE CHARACTER OTHER THAN THE ONE WE FELL IN LOVE WITH.

I'm not too hot on the idea. It will not be as good as the original, and it's hard to imagine others playing the roles when it hasn't been that long. They tried to remake Dark Shadows and that tanked (we'll see how the movie version does though) but Hawaii Five-O is doing OK. I just can't imagine the new writers making the show as intelligent as it was. They will probably just go for the vampire/love angle. Hmm, sounds like a show that's on right now...

The thing I don't get about this proposed remake is that the main reason for making it a remake at all would be to draw in fans of the original. And doing it this way would mostly seem to actively repel them.

From a strictly commercial standpoint it would seem to be better to make an entirely new movie and perhaps play it up as being "in the tradition" of Buffy or some such thing.

I mainly find I'm paralyzed with not caring very much.
