Whew. Had a very busy day today, so this week's Musical Sunday post is just a question:

What is the deal with New Yorkers in musicals wanting to move to Santa Fe? Is this some sort of musical theater conceit I don't know about? Do actual New Yorkers dream of moving to New Mexico? I've never been there - is Santa Fe really that great?

I've never heard of this trend. New Mexico is gorgeous, but it's more about the great outdoors than the cities for me. Santa Fe was picturesque but really touristy in the city center. There were a couple excellent brew pubs and I love New Mexican food.

The desert and the clean air were wonderful. I can understand why artists are inspired by the colorful landscape. I couldn't stay hydrated though, Woke up several times in the night having to drink more water at the higher (for me) altitude.

I only know this from a friend of mine but apparently Santa Fe has a huge art collective. I think she said that she used to work for their opera house and they have a big theatre sort of thing there.

I've personally only ever driven through but my friend, every summer she goes from NC to Santa Fe to work for the opera/theatre there.

If you hadn't included the Newsies song, I would have posted it myself. I remember feeling very sympathetic and, hmm, mushy towards Christian Bale when I used to get to this part...
