The federal government is off today because of snow, which means I am, too. I've been pretty busy with homework for class this week, so I'm only just catching up on a lot of TV shows. Mondays and Thursdays are killer, especially since I have class on Thursday nights and don't get home until 9:30. I so need a DVR, but in the meantime, thank goodness for the internet.
First, some observations on the TV poll I did. Top three most popular shows on my flist are Doctor Who, Bones, and How I Met Your Mother. Which I suppose isn't that surprising, given that y'all are Buffy fans, since Doctor Who is classic sci-fi, and the other two both star BtVS alums. I'm also pleasantly surprised at the high turnout for Chuck. (I think Zachary Levi might be my new TV crush.) However, I suspect the numbers for Caprica might be a bit lower if not for a wee vampire who's slated to guest star. :)
Least watched shows are 24 and Parks & Recreation. Eh, I can't really fault you for that, though I do think there ought to be more love for Friday Night Lights and Being Erica.
Anywho, so here's what I watched on my snow day. No real spoilers, just casting info and general thoughts about the decline of certain shows throughout the years...
I have been a 24 fan since the very beginning, and like a lot of people, have found that they never quite matched the first season (although season 5 was pretty damn cool), and now I really only watch it to see Jack be awesome and just turn my brain off as far as the plot goes. This season is pretty rockin' with the new cast members - pleeeeeeease let Katee Sackhoff and Callum Keith Rennie have a scene together at some point. Not just for the BSG reunion, but also to save Starbuck from her idiotic subplot. (Cougar came early this season, apparently. It's only episode six.) Also? David Anders! Love him. I stopped watching Heroes because they killed him off (and also because the show spiraled into nonsensical drivel). I love him most when he's suited up and being menacing, so it works out well that he's one of the bad guys.
Speaking of shows that never quite recaptured the awesomeness of their first seasons, Damages (where, incidentally, my girl Reiko Aylesworth - Michelle Dessler on 24 - is guest starring this year). Sometimes I wonder why I keep watching these shows, when I've sort of fallen out of love with them. Loyalty is a big part of it, I guess; it takes a lot for me to give up on a show once I've put in a couple seasons. I'm about as into the central mystery this season as I was last season, which is to say not much. The dual time lines thing is a lot like the 24 "real time" gimmick - was really cool the first time, but the novelty wears off pretty quickly. Not a good sign, given that 24 made it to 8 seasons while Damages is only at 3.
It took me several tries to watch Bones; Fox must have been having some sort of website problems. Once I got it to work - holy product placement, Batman. Are they perhaps trying to highlight the voice-activated GPS in Brennan's car? You know, I'm not opposed to product placement - in fact, I am all for Subway sponsorship of Chuck if it'll keep the show on the air - as long as they don't smack you in the face with it. If it's distractingly out of place, it pulls you out of the story. Also, they don't actually call mental institutions "sanitariums" anymore, do they? Seriously? And continuing the familiar guest stars theme, in this ep we have Joshua Malina, alumnus of everything Aaron Sorkin's ever done. One final observation - is it just me, or do they repeat the same B-plot every time the Muslim intern is on? It seems like every time that guy shows up, the case has something to do with religion, he makes some comment about it, which Cam or someone else misinterprets, only to realize later that they've horribly stereotyped him. If they don't have anything to do with him except say "hey, he's Muslim, but he doesn't hate Americans," then can we please move on to other, more interesting interns, like Wendell or the British trivia-spouting guy?

Date: Feb. 6th, 2010 02:39 am (UTC)OH, and yes that 'wee' little vamp better make an appearance. I mean, I'll watch it anyway, since BSG is one of my fave shows, but that would make me so happeeeeee! There isn't enough of our man out there. Is that even possible?
