Took a brief break to spend the night in the hospital, but I'm back home now. Clearly, nothing was happening in fandom this week that I might've missed. :-P And I still hadn't caught up from Christmas. I guess I'd better try to get through all the "end of the year" memes before January is over...

Snagged this one from [livejournal.com profile] slaymesoftly.

1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
Well, I acquired a chronic illness... never done that before.

2. Did you keep your New Year's Resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't make resolutions.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes. My uncle died in February, and then a close friend of my parents died in March, both of cancer.

5. What countries did you visit?
None but the one I live in. I didn't take any vacation in 2009.

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
A vacation! Also, the freedom to eat whatever I want (within reason) would be nice.

7. What dates from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
July 3rd - the day I moved to DC. August 7th - the day I got sick (also my mother's birthday).

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting a job in DC.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I can't really think of anything I'd classify as a failure...

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I hardly did anything else.

11. What was the best thing someone bought you?
My new HDTV (my Christmas present from my parents).

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I don't know about "celebration," but I am eternally thankful for my mom's support in the last six months.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My immune system. Its attack on my intestines has been completely unwelcome and inappropriate.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent and other expenses.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The new job and starting school.

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
I don't know that there is a particular song.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? About the same.
b) fatter or skinnier? Oh, way thinner, by about 40 lbs.
c) richer or poorer? About the same.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Spent more time socializing and going out with friends. Once I got sick, I sort of stopped doing stuff (because I was in pain and because it's no fun going to happy hour when you can't eat or drink anything).

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Been sick?

20. How do you plan to spend Christmas?
Already spent it at my parents' house with family.

21. Did you fall in love in 2009?
No.

22. How many one night stands?
None.

23. What was your favorite TV program?
Mad Men

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No.

25. What was the best book you read?
The Thirteenth Tale

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
[title of show]

27. What did you want and get?
A new job

28. What did you want and not get?
To get better

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
The only movie I saw that came out this year was "Night at the Museum 2." It was good, but it probably wouldn't be my favorite if I'd seen more movies. Of the movies I rented, "Doubt" and "The Lost Room" were my favorites.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 25. I don't think I did anything special. I can't remember doing anything, at least.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not getting sick?

32. Can you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Just try to keep up with the weight loss.

33. What kept you sane?
My mom, I think.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Neil Patrick Harris

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Health care reform

36. Who do you miss?
My friends

37. Who was the best new person you met?
Tam, a friend I met in my grad school classes.

38. What was the best thing you ate?
Dude, after six months of bland food and strict diets, I had one meatball at Christmas dinner. It tasted like heaven.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009?
Wash your hands after taking the metro.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I don't know... I'm too tired to find a good one.

You went to the hospital? Was wondering where you'd gone. I feel for you so much and I'm hoping you see some improvement this year.

*hugs*

Yuck, hospitals must be avoided :/

Loved Night at The Museum 1, not seen 2 yet. All those poor kids who have yet to find out that museum work is mundane toil :D
