First one snagged from [personal profile] slaymesoftly:

1. What did you do in 2013 that you'd never done before?
Nothing in particular is springing to mind. Oh, I got laid off. That's never happened before. :-\

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don’t make them because I never keep them. My resolution is always to exercise more and lose weight but it never works.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

4. Did anyone close to you die?

5. What countries did you visit?

Just the one I live in, although I did hit a couple new states. I took a vacation to San Francisco, a road trip to Vermont - had never been to either - and work trips to Chicago and Orlando.

6. What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
A boyfriend. Kittens. Enough money to be independently wealthy. A starring role in a Broadway musical. (Oh, wait, are we being realistic?)

7. What date from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Uh, April 15, maybe? I started my new job then. In general, though, I am not good at remembering dates.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

New job.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I... actually can't think of anything! I mean, other than generally failing at life, I don't think there is anything I set out to do and failed at? See, this is why not ever doing shit is good for my self-esteem!

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing more than the usual. Still have Crohn's. Still have joint pains.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

I got a new cell phone on Black Friday, which I am pretty much in love with. (It's a Samsung Galaxy S4 and it only cost me $50.)

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

Jennifer Lawrence. That girl kept me entertained all year long.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The people at my former place of employment, because the way they handled things was so appallingly awful it should be in HR manuals of what NOT to do.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Mortgage. Food. Clothes. Metro. I am not exactly a big spender.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The new job, especially coming as it did on the heels of NOT HAVING ONE. Seeing Heidi in Next to Normal in Vermont.

16. What song will always remind you of 2013?
"The New World," from Songs for a New World

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or sadder? About the same.

ii. thinner or fatter?
Ugh, fatter. :(

iii. richer or poorer? A little bit richer, now that I actually have a job that pays me decently.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Exercise. Date. Leave the apartment.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Post linkspams! LOL, going back through my posts, it seems like that's ALL I did. Remember when this used to be a blog of ~substance?

20. How did you spend Christmas?

With the family.

21. What LJ users did you meet?

In person? None. Or just, like, new people I started talking to? I don't spend much time on LJ anymore, so I don't really make new friends there, haha.

22. Did you fall in love in 2013?

Same answer as last year: Only with fictional characters and occasionally the actors that play them.

23. How many one-night stands?

24. What were your favorite TV programs?

Breaking Bad, Orange is the New Black, Orphan Black, Masters of Sex, The Good Wife, many, many others.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't think so? I still hate all the same people, lol.

26. What was the best book you read?
Before I Fall, by Lauren Oliver. It's about a teenage girl who dies in a car accident, only to end up reliving her last day over and over. At first, she thinks it's a chance to fix the chain of events that led to her death, but in the process she discovers that she was really kind of a terrible person. Then her last day is spent desperately to right all the wrongs she's done to others and trying to be a better person before she dies. She can only stop reliving the day when she finally gets it right.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Aaron Tveit singing "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together."

28. What did you want and get?
A new job!

29. What did you want and not get?

I did not win the lottery.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?

Probably Catching Fire, but I don't see a lot of movies in the theater. On DVD, I finally watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang for the first time, and where has this movie been all my life?

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 29. I can't actually remember what I did... alas, it was probably not that interesting.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

I don't know if I could boil it down to just one thing.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?

Whatever fits.

34. What kept you sane?

Zoloft. Kittens. Television.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Chris Evans, probably? Also Jennifer Lawrence.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

General disgust at our entire government.

37. Who did you miss?
Same answer as last year: I am sad that I didn't get to see [personal profile] per_aspera_ad_astra this year (come visit meeeeeeee), but I talk to her almost every day, so that makes up for it.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

Melanie! Yay for new nerd friends.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.

You cannot actually dispose of a body using hydrofluoric acid, no matter what they said on Breaking Bad.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
I always hate this question, because I know SO MANY song lyrics it's impossible to narrow it down. I am tempted to go with "Blah blah blah more therapy!" from First Date, lol. Instead, how about this:

I look at the people who’ve worked it all out
And I wonder why I’m still a bundle of doubt
And sometimes I wanna just stand up and shout
"Just commit and deal with it
Before your life flies by
Don’t let your life fly by"

But is it safer?
Maybe it’s safer
If I don’t try

- "Safer," First Date

And the second one from [personal profile] snickfic:

1. Your main fandom of the year?

2. Your favorite film watched this year?

See above.

3. Your favorite book read this year?
See above.

4. Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
I listened to a LOT of Jason Robert Brown, both Songs for a New World and The Last Five Years.

5. Your favorite TV show of the year?
Breaking Bad.

7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
COMICS. <3 <3 <3

8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?

I am tempted to say the final season of Dexter, but... lol, it's hard to be a disappointment when it's exactly what I expected. We knew that was going to be a hot mess. Frankly, it was entertaining how spectacularly bad it was. So... I wanted Agents of SHIELD to be a lot better that it is.

9. Your fandom boyfriend of the year?
Chris Evans. Zachary Levi. Aaron Tveit.

10. Your fandom girlfriend of the year?

Jennifer Lawrence.

11. Your biggest squee moment of the year?
The Veronica Mars movie Kickstarter was pretty awesome. Also, squeaking in at the very end of the year, I met Zachary Levi and Krysta Rodriguez!

12. The most missed of your old fandoms?

TVD. Remember when everybody used to post weekly episode reactions, and they were all flaily and squeeful (or occasionally flaily and garment-rending)? I miss those days.

13. The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
I don't really "try" fandoms? They sort of just happen to me. I will say, from the outside, the Sleepy Hollow fandom looks like it is having the most batshit fun ever, but first I'll have to watch the show.

14. Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The Veronica Mars movie. I am sort of anticipating WITH DREAD the Into the Woods movie, does that count?
