I actually love the musical "Cats", but that is one musical that should never, ever be a movie. Its emotional power is entirely in the live-show-ness of it.

Ah, that might explain some of my distaste. I've never seen it live, only a filmed stage performance (probably on PBS). It was... weird. I do like some of the songs, though.
