The series finale was awesome. The episode before the finale, however, was the angstiest thing I've ever seen on TV. But I'll tell you why I liked the finale (other than the montage). It's my pet peeve on shows that in the last episode, whatever the whole show has revolved around is destroyed/the family moves. Because I just like to imagine them happily (or unhappily) going on. Even on sitcoms, it annoys me when the family moves away. So I was overjoyed that they kept the funeral home and started making it a real home again.
It's funny, on any other show, I would probably have thought the ending was too neat and tidy, you know? Especially given the general mood of the show, an "everyone gets what they want" ending should seem out of place. And yet... the one thing I've said all along is that, as much as I love watching the Fishers be fucked up, I just want something GOOD to happen to them. And they've been through SO MUCH CRAP that it feels like they've EARNED a fucking happy ending.
Oh man! I've been waiting so long for this opportunity, so where do I start??? Well, let me start by listing my ten favorite SFU moments: - An Open Book, the whole episode - "Some Other Time" montage, what with Keith and the possum. AW. - Claire and Ruth going out for lunch after they've both had "truly one of the finest evenings" ever - Claire's visit to Azusa - "I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch" - "we should all be working with dogs" - Margaret and Olivier's whole dynamic - David's anxiety dream about having a baby :-D - Russell's breakdown in front of the huge lollipop - The Rainbow of Her Reasons
- THE FOOT. Seriously absurd and hilarious. - Everything ever with Bettina - David's abduction and PTSD - "Everybody's Waiting," the whole episode - When Nate's high at the family dinner - David and Ruth washing Nate's body - Nate burying Lisa - "I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch" - Ruth shooting all her lovers - "Hi! You've reached David and Keith, but we can't come to the phone right now because we're too gay!"
