Now with even more bruising and three times the mucus!

Well, I had to do something to top the Thanksgiving table mishap, right?

Anyway, happy new year! Hope everyone had a lovely seasonal and/or religious holiday of your choice. I'm delighted to come back and see so many people now crossposting from DW (I like to think it was my persuasive post that convinced y'all), and I've had SO MUCH to catch up on that I've been reading/commenting sporadically, but I definitely welcome recs if I missed something devastatingly interesting.

First things first, I seem to have mostly recovered from the Christmas Death Blargh, but I still have a lingering cough and chest congestion that's about to hit the two-week mark. I don't understand how one body could produce SO MUCH MUCUS OMG. (On the other hand, I gave my cold to my mother, who was completely over it in about three days. Guess that's what a fully-functional immune system does for you. Meh.)

I went home to my parents' house for Christmas, as usual. Stayed Friday through Monday and then my mom came back to DC with me for an extended vacation. As soon as I arrived, my parents descended on my baked goods like vultures, which I guess means the recipes were a success?

Christmas Eve dinner once again reaffirmed that I like my cousin's new in-laws better than my own family. :) They're hilarious and lots of fun and completely dysfunction-free. It's refreshing.

I also once again missed meeting my other cousin's fiance, as they went to his parents' for Christmas Day. I am not entirely convinced he exists. He's always conveniently absent whenever I come home. (He was supposed to be there on Thanksgiving, but he was sick. His loss. He missed the epic table collapse.)

My mom and I both got the Kindle Fire for Christmas, so we've spent the last week playing with them. At first, my mom was like, "I'm sending it back!" because she couldn't get it to work. She has issues with the touch screen. And, I dunno, my mother has earned the nickname "the mad clicker" because she's terribly impatient with computers, but hers did seem a bit more fickle than mine - sometimes it wouldn't respond at all when I tapped it, other times it senses your finger hovering over it, not even touching, and selects things you don't want it to. Anyone else have that problem, or did she just get a lemon? In any case, I LOVE mine, and I've already loaded it up with books to read. Give me recs! (I've been trolling other folks' posts, so I've gotten quite a few from there.)

Oh, and I also managed to get an EVEN BIGGER bruise than the one I got from the Thanksgiving table. I... may have fallen into a Christmas tree? Go ahead and laugh. I'll wait.

Done? Okay.

I blame the tree for being so friggin' tall that I had to stand on my tippy-toes in order to hang an ornament on it and lost my balance. I also blame my father for forcing me to drink Sambucca (he claimed it would be good for my cold), even though I only had a little bit and can't really claim to be drunk. Mostly, we're just relieved that I didn't take the whole tree down with me, which would've been MUCH less hilarious. Still, I have a giant tree-branch-sized bruise down the entire length of my thigh. It still kinda hurts, and of course now my mother gets to make comments about being the only member of our family not to fall into a Christmas tree (apparently, my dad did that many years ago? But he was actually drunk and not just clumsy).

Moving on. The day after Christmas we went to the movies - a whole family outing, both my parents and my grandmother, since she stayed over at our house and my mom didn't want to have to, you know, actually spend time with her, hahaha. We saw We Bought a Zoo, which was incredibly cute.

Since my mother works at a university and they're closed for break, she has the week off between Christmas and New Year's, so I took that week off, too, and she came back with me. We had gorgeous weather, so we took a trip to Mount Vernon, did some shopping in Old Town Alexandria, and went into the city to the Renwick Gallery and the Christmas train display at Union Station before dropping my mother off at Megabus. Stay tuned for pictures.

I have no plans for New Year's Eve tonight, mostly because I'm lazy and didn't feel like hosting a party. Not going out anywhere because everything in DC is SO overpriced, and it's really not worth it. I'm still sick anyway, so it's probably better to rest a bit after my eventful holiday.

So, how was your holiday?

So what you're saying is that you gave me this cold, then? Cause it's lasted a week, and it ain't going away and it makes me most unhappy!

I don't need to give you book recs. We're Goodreads friends. :)

I... may have fallen into a Christmas tree? Go ahead and laugh. I'll wait.

*points and laughs*

But it makes a great story! :)
