Well, the housewarming party ended up rather nice. Only people from my building came, due to the nasty weather, but it was good to get to know my new neighbors better. And I'm planning to try again with the party thing in couple weeks, barring any further natural disasters. I do have two recipes for you, one of which is an old favorite from many parties of my youth, the other a new recipe I tried for the first time.
Aunt Irene’s Corned Beef Dip
16 oz sour cream
1-1/3 cup mayonnaise
2 Tbsp parsley flakes
2 Tbsp dry onion flakes
1 tsp seasoned salt
1 tsp dill weed or dill seed
1/4 lb chipped corned beef
Mix and refrigerate overnight. Serve with cocktail rye (mini rye breads) and, if you're feeling extra fancy, serve the dip in a bread bowl.
The recipe for the Tortellini Bites can be found here. I was somewhat skeptical that you could manage to boil a pound of pasta in 22 oz of broth, but it worked.
Both recipes are simple to make, but - as my neighbors will testify - they're impressive enough to make you seem like a real cook. :)
I also made Fruit Dip, which is absurdly easy. 8 oz of cream cheese, 8 oz of marshmallow fluff, and get mixy. Sooooo good. And gives me an excuse to make peanut butter & fluff sandwiches. :)
