* Kal Penn is leaving the White House again for a role on HIMYM. Memo to President Obama: Even though you have continually overlooked me and rehired Kal, like, six times, I would still be happy to replace him.
* Interview with Nestor Carbonell, everyone's favorite eyeliner-wearing immortal, who is SMG's costar in Ringer.
* Netflix is screwing everyone with ridiculous price hikes. I'll probably end up canceling either the DVDs or the streaming, but I haven't decided which one yet.
* With Friday Night Lights airing its series finale on NBC tomorrow, I have been completely torn between wanting to watch it as soon as possible and not wanting to because then it'll be over. Fortunately, you can relive the magic (or watch for the first time, if you're one of the unfortunate people who hasn't seen it) on ESPN.
* You can also catch up on Mad Men this summer if you're an early bird or have a DVR.
* Speaking of Mad Men, this What Would Don Draper Do? flowchart cracks me up.
* Emmy nominations have been announced. Things that are relevant to my interests under the cut.
Not surprisingly, Mad Men got a ridiculous number of nominations (19), including:
Outstanding Drama Series
Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series (Jon Hamm)
Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series (Elisabeth Moss)
Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series (John Slattery)
Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series (Christina Hendricks)
Dexter also did well, with 5 nominations, including:
Outstanding Drama Series
Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series (Michael C. Hall)
Outstanding Guest Actress In A Drama Series (Julia Stiles)
And YAAAAAAY Friday Night Lights is finally getting the recognition it deserves, with 4 nominations, including:
Outstanding Drama Series
Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series (Kyle Chandler)
Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series (Connie Britton)
'Bout fucking time, eh?
Also not surprised that The Office got noms for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series (Steve Carell), but I was pleasantly surprised that Parks And Recreation also managed to snag Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series (Amy Poehler) noms. Nothing for Community, but that's to be expected, even though it has been leaps and bounds ahead of The Office.
Of the other shows I watch, How I Met Your Mother, Sherlock, Fringe, and Burn Notice got creative and/or technical awards.
Also, can I just point out how absurd it is that last year's award shows get nominated for awards?? Talk about a circle-jerk.

Date: Jul. 14th, 2011 07:51 pm (UTC)Wow, Mad Men cleaned up with the noms, didn't it? *is impressed*
And yay Dexter! :)
It's a shame Sherlock wasn't nominated for more, although I suppose with only three episodes, there was a comparatively slimmer chance...

Date: Jul. 14th, 2011 08:44 pm (UTC)Of course, the generous side of me says maybe they're jacking up the prices so that they can afford to buy up the licenses to stream all of their stuff, and eventually doing away with the DVDs altogether? (Or at least making it a LOGICAL separate plan for people who can't stream.)
I would suspect that Sherlock's problem is that it just didn't get enough attention. Theoretically, being only 3 episodes should've helped them. Since it's so short, it was counted in the miniseries category, which means it had a LOT less competition than a regular TV show. Maybe none of the voters watched it?

Date: Jul. 15th, 2011 12:20 am (UTC)How much is Kal Penn our national younger brother who gets away with everything while we all get grounded for texting at dinner? King of the dudebros.

Although I probably shouldn't badmouth him, since I'll probably have to work with him again if/when he comes back to the White House again.

That Don Draper was so hilariously accurate it hurts. Particularly the belittling-Pete-and-Peggy part. Grr.
