Adventures in Meatlessness

Man, I should try to eat less crap so I can make more cooking posts. :) Actually, I do have a couple recipes to post, I've just been a slacker lately. Anywho, thanks to my swell digestive issues, I have been doing some dabbling in meat substitutes, since I can't really eat things like hot dogs and bacon and such. I figured some of you might be interested in the results...
Quorn Meatless Meatballs - Y'all know I'm Italian, right? So obviously there's no competing with my mother's meatballs, but I figured I'd give it a shot. They weren't bad, no worse than those golf-ball meatballs that you can buy frozen. But having grown up with the real stuff, they are definitely lacking something essential. (Meat, perhaps? lol) I'll be trying a different brand next time.
MorningStar Veggie Corn Dogs - I used to love corn dogs as a kid. Let's be honest - I still do. Guilty pleasure food. Unfortunately, hot dogs and deep fried things do not-so-pleasurable things to me, but these seem to be a decent substitute. They're a little drier than regular, and they don't really taste like meat, but then again, neither do regular hot dogs, so what's the difference?
MorningStar Veggie Bacon Strips - Alas, MorningStar does not do quite as well with things that aren't supposed to taste like they're stuffed with chemicals. I was super-skeptical to begin with, since the "bacon" looks like those Beggin' Strips you feed to your dog. And I imagine it probably tastes similar, too. It did crisp up - it didn't look like it was going to, and I was afraid I almost burned it, but it seemed all right. But it is not even close to the taste or texture of bacon. I crumbled it up and put it in quiche (recipe forthcoming), and it was fine like that, but definitely do not expect to be eating this with your scrambled eggs.
