I think I've unleashed some sort of inner picspammer, because this thing is eating my brain (as well as all my free time, lol). At least it's fun!

Day Three: A female character you hated but grew to love
Olivia Dunham

Man, talk about the difference between night and day. When Fringe first started, I thought, "Awesome premise, love the Bishops, I'll watch anything starring Josh Jackson, but Olivia is REALLY miscast." The character seemed terribly bland and Anna Torv seemed wooden and incapable of portraying simple emotions.

But as the rest of the show has steadily improved, so has Olivia. I don't know if it's the writing - Olivia definitely has more depth, giving Torv a wider range to play - or if Torv's acting has actually improved (some hypothesized that she had trouble doing the American accent and it detracted from her performance) or if she's just more comfortable in the character now. Whatever it is, Olivia is friggin' awesome now.

I'm kind of amused that all three picspams so far have featured awesome ladies who are armed. Clearly I have a type. :) And kick-ass Olivia is always a good thing. But what has really made her fascinating is the introduction of her double in the other universe, Olivia swapping places with Fauxlivia, and the ensuing identity crisis and psychological violation of having someone take over your life.

During the first season, I could not comprehend of a romantic relationship between Olivia and Peter. I could tell the show wanted to go there, but they just had zero chemistry. The chemistry started to develop late in the second season, but it wasn't until they finally got together (unbeknownst to Peter that it was really Fauxlivia) that I realized I actually wanted him and Olivia together. And of course, Fauxlivia's deception nearly ruined it. But I'm looking forward to seeing them work through their issues and build their relationship back up. Although, I am also extraordinarily annoyed that basically the entire fate of both worlds rests solely on which Olivia Peter chooses. Like, could we maybe objectify her a little bit more, Show?

Whatevs. I am confident Olivia will find some way to kick ass no matter what Peter does. She's incredibly good at that.

goodbyebird: Fringe: Two versions of Olivia, one blue and one red. (Fringe and then there were two)

I love love love Olivia. I didn't much care for her in the beginning either - didn't dislike her, she just didn't catch my attention - and she's now become my favorite female character on television. I really liked the slow, organic development of peter and Olivia's relationship; it never felt like they were pushing or forcing it in any way - until after Olivia got back from the altverse.

Now if they could only drop the Peter's Penis Is The Pillar Of Creation bullshit, and get back to the good old times. Olivia clearly needs to save the day, preferably with the help of Charlie(just wants her to be able to say "Hey, Charlie. Thanks for not shooting me." before transporting back to our universe. or, you know, CHARLIE CAN JUST COME ON OVER AND WALTER CAN CURE HIS WORMS AND THEY CAN BE AWESOME PARTNERS FOR EVER AND EVER.) and some crazy skience from Walter. Peter can go back to being the damsel in distress *g*

Huh. We're like opposites on this one. I've never been impressed by Josh Jackson's acting at all, but Anna Torv works for me. And Peter/Olivia does nothing for me. Hell, I'd prefer Peter-Olivia friendship without the romantic stuff.

But the show continues to entertain, and Olivia still rocks so I'm good. :)
