Oh, wait. I was. :-P

And I managed to spill all manner of things in the year and a half I worked in a lab (I still have one or two shirts with acid holes in them), but you'd think "don't put corrosive substances in your eye" would be the kind of lesson you don't need to learn by doing.

Why is this relevant? Well, the last time I went to the eye doctor, he recommended I switch to a new contact solution called Clear Care, which is, in fact, hydrogen peroxide. It seems counterintuitive, but there's a little metal doohickey in the contact case that neutralizes the peroxide so you don't burn your retinas off. Good. Okay.

Now, they claim that you can put the contacts directly in your eyes once you've soaked them for at least six hours, but I like to rinse them off with regular contact solution, just to be safe. Except this morning I reached for the wrong bottle and accidentally rinsed them with MORE HYDROGEN PEROXIDE. OMG THE BURNING! BUUUUUUUURN.

Don't worry, my eyes are fine. I re-rinsed the contacts with the correct solution and flushed out my eyes, and they looked puffy and bloodshot for a while, but they seem okay now. Also, I googled it, and I probably won't go blind or anything from a 3% concentration. But if you'd ever wondered what would happen if you put hydrogen peroxide in your eyes, well, now you know.

Ouch. My eyes hurt just thinking about that.

Another contact lesson I learned accidentally is that it is possible to store 2 pairs of contacts in 1 case. I think this was around Christmas, while Seamus was here. I just got home from work around 1am, was extremely tired since we had driven during the day, and had to work at 8am the next day (or I guess that day really). So I put my contacts in my case and went to sleep (Seamus was already asleep). Next morning I groggily attempt to put my contacts in. The left one is giving me trouble, and falls out of my eye. So I put it back in the case, then realize that I can see, but why are there still contacts in the case? Then I figure out that Seamus had put his in there, and I was too tired to notice when I took mine out. Luckily the little numbers on mine look different than his, so I knew I had my own contacts in.

Ouch...that really sounds painful. Gad your eye is ok.

(Also, you worked in a lab? Cool!)
