Maybe not, but they are definitely high up there on the list. My parents make the same cookies every year (butter cookies with the old school cookie press), because they are a beloved tradition and there would be riots among family and friends if they didn't make them. Back in the day, when I lived at home, it used to be a family thing - my mom would make the dough, my dad operated the cookie press, and I decorated. Now, of course, they do it without me, so I make my own cookies.

Since they basically make five or six batches of the same cookie, just in different shapes and colors, I try to add some variety, and for the past few years, I've been trying out new recipes.

This year's experiments included Puddle Cookies, because my cousin's girlfriend fiancee (as of yesterday) has Celiac's and so I like to make something gluten-free so she can eat it. Unfortunately, they always come out a little... off. Last year I tried regular chocolate chip, and they weren't bad, just kinda dry.

I made two batches of the puddle cookies and... well... the first batch came out ENORMOUS and rather misshapen, so they looked more like mutant alien blobs from a horror movie than cookies. They were also a little dry, because they were so huge that I was worried they wouldn't be done in the middle (it's hard to tell because they're supposed to be gooey!), so I left them in probably longer than I should've. But they tasted okay.

The second batch, I learned from my mistakes and made them much smaller and more shapely, so they actually looked like cookies. They're also appropriately gooey inside like they're supposed to be. But they're really, really overpoweringly sweet. I don't know why they came out sweeter than the first batch (the only difference was the size!). It's very bizarre. Sorry, Cara. I tried.

My other recipe turned out much better. I made these Chocolate Chip Oreo Cookies, which turned out really well (plus I get to eat the leftover Oreos!).

Now if I could just finish my Christmas shopping... I was going to go today, but then I said screw it, I've got five more days. :)

I love this post! I have neither the disposable income nor the energy reserves to deal with much Christmas shopping this year so EVERYONE IS GETTING COOKIE TINS. Which sounded like an awesome plan when I came up with it (last week because I like to live on the edge! and am always in denial that the holidays will actually happen), but then I tried this recipe (http://cccakery.blogspot.com/2010/06/chocolate-chip-filled-melted-moment.html) for the first time a couple of nights ago and "quality control" turned into "now I need to make lots more." Oops.
