My boss told me today that, due to the ongoing financial crisis we're apparently in, the executive board is likely going to cut back our hours. I could end up with only 25 hours a week, which means I'm definitely not going to be able to buy a condo, and it's going to be pretty tight even just paying rent. Of course, the most important thing is that I get to keep my health insurance benefits (which... I am not clear on whether that's the case), because otherwise I will be broke in a week trying to pay for all my prescriptions.

Either way, I am back to job hunting, since this is the second time the new leadership has tried to eliminate my position, and my boss has had to cut my salary in order to keep me from getting laid off. Which so far he's been successful at, but I'm not taking any chances.

I do have a new recipe and a couple books to talk about, but not sure when I'll get to them. I really ought to be working on my paper...

Oh, that sucks! But, yeah, new job is definitely the way to go. At least you will have some income while you're looking, which may allow you some more flexibility than you would have if you were out of work and needed something immediately. Will be crossing my fingers for you that you get to keep your health benefits and that you find something new that you both like and that can be financially rewarding. *hugs*

Yeah, it's the insurance that would be more of a problem than the money. I'd hate it, but I could ask my parents for help paying rent. Or I suppose I could use the money set aside for my down payment, or we could always kill Grandmom and get my inheritance. :) But a couple $10,000 Remicade treatments and I'll be wiped out.

Oh, it's no problem. We're Italian, bumping off family members is a regular pastime.

Ohhhhh, you meant the prescription costs. Yes, indeed. ;)

Eep! I'm so sorry. If you do get put on 25 hrs/wk, at least that'd give you plenty of time for job apps and such. (Which: yech.)

Thanks! And yeah, it would give me time to look, but *sigh* I'd rather not have to start looking again so soon...

Wait, but you didn't actually get a new job last time, right? You just were looking for awhile?

You mean this summer, when we had the first "let's not fire me" issue? Yeah, I was just looking as a precaution.

But I've only been at this job for a year and a half - and it took eight months of applying before I got an offer. I was hoping not to have to do it again until the summer (or three years from now, if I got the fellowship).
