It's a dismal, dreary day today, and I'm still feeling kinda sick/tired/cranky/pissed off, so I'm looking for happy thoughts.

What's the BEST THING that's happened to you today? (Or this week, or this month, or whenever!)

Best thing this month... My grandma gave me this necklace of hers that I've always liked.

It was just sort of random. She was showing me some new stuff she'd bought off ebay, and I saw that necklace in a drawer, and said I'd always liked it, and she just gave it to me. It's not like it was really one of "her" necklaces or something that had sentimental valuse; I don't even remember seeing her wear it. I've just always liked it.

But she's kind of gotten like that lately, giving some things away. (Or looking around her house and saying, "I don't know what you girls are going to do with all this/are going to have a time sorting through all this.") Which is kind of ridiculous at this point, IMO. She's in as good health (physically and mentally) as you can be at 80--still drives, volunteers, uses computers, gets around fine, never falls, remembers things, takes care of her own house.

TL;DR, I guess she wanted me to have it because I wanted it?

Mine doesn't even have THAT much stuff. I mean, they moved around considerably before I was born, and have only been in this house for 15 years. So it's not like there's a whole collected lifetime where she's never gotten rid of anything (not like my OTHER grandma was--whose house is still sitting there with stuff because it's at the motel, and because half of the stuff in that house is also my dad's, and he's a huge packrat). Really, the largest thing is her collection of dolls and collectible tins. That's the only thing that really comes to mind that's not standard kitchen, living room, bedroom stuff, etc to go through.

Heh. That sounds like my dad's mom. She lived in the house at the motel since the 50s. Tons of dishes, books, clothes, and God-knows-what in the attic. She was one of those people who Never Changes Anything, which unfortunately my dad has inherited. The furniture from the 70s is still there, which he thinks is still perfectly good. The real problem is that there's a ton of stuff that my dad wants to keep (books), but has no room at his own house for. This is going to be a problem whenever they get around to selling the motel (which they will at some point, because my dad doesn't "want to be doing this when I'm 65"). But he's not going to clean anything out before then, so I'm sure it's going to be some horrible rush job where things get lost. Or he'll suddenly decide that none of it is worth saving after years of refusing to toss anything. I also have issues, LOL.

Sad to hear you had such a shitty day.

Today was mostly work for me, but boyfriend was cute when I came home, gave me good food and massaged my head.

My new black boots (http://www.overstock.com/Clothing-Shoes/Diba-Womens-Just-Great-Over-the-knee-Boots/5113663/product.html) came today! I haven't bought anything that wasn't absolutely necessary in such a long time that it feels a lot more exciting than it is. I AM NOT YET SURE IF THEY WERE MADE FOR WALKIN' THOUGH, they are bizarrely narrow.

You know what, I have to echo Barb on this: I wrote an original fic piece Friday. First one in far, far too long. I'm ecstatic (even though it is A) not very long and B) not very good).

I am sorry your week is being miserable. :(

Here, see what Spike thinks about that. *points to icon*

Hm, I don't think much happened today (free lunch at school?), but I did make a cute little wristlette out of candy corn fabric. I needed something for Friday that would go with my costume. Oh, and yesterday I successfully altered said costume so it fits!
As for this month, I visited Seamus last weekend, and will see him this weekend. Hooray!

He just moved about 2 months ago for a teaching job in waynesboro, Virginia. So it's around 5 hours away, which stinks.
I have 2 costumes for halloween. For the concert on Friday, I was on a mission to find the most ridiculous "sassy" (as they are now called) costume possible, which was "naughty nemo" (as in finding nemo). It's not so bad- basically a tube top dress, although it's short, so I got some shorts to wear underneath. For my cousin's wedding on sunday- I'm wearing a mermaid costume I made last year, mainly because it took me forever, so I didn't want to wear it just once. And Seamus is going as Dr. Horrible!

Ha, I know, it's pretty absurd.
And yeah, I showed Dr Horrible to Seamus one day, and he actually liked it (even though it's a musical). At the end I told him it was made by joss whedon, and he said "well I was going to say it was good". He isn't a fan of buffy.
Ha, dead penny would be fun, but I think dr horrible has a better costume. He's apparently already worn the goggles. I'll have to show you pictures, I'm sure they'll be funny
