1. I wanted to buy new headphones. Nothing fancy, just those cheap little earbuds. Between the cat using them as a chew toy and me accidentally stepping on them, I go through headphones like most people go through underwear, so there's really no point in getting expensive stuff.

In CVS (actually, I think it's most places, Rite Aid does it, too), for some reason, the headphones are kept in a locked display case, which requires the assistance of a customer service assistant to open. And not only that, but the CSA then escorted me to the pharmacy counter, because apparently I can't be trusted to walk there on my own and not to run off with the loot.

Seriously? I mean, I can understand locking up the electronics, but these are $10 headphones. I absolutely guarantee you there are more expensive things in the store that are NOT locked up. WTF? Are we discriminating against music lovers now?

2. I also picked up a prescription today, and when I got back to the office, I opened it up and realized they'd given me a different medicine than usual. So back I go to CVS, where they explain to me that it's a generic version of the one I usually get. Fine, but do you think it might've been helpful to tell me that before you gave it to me? This is my third refill on this prescription; there's absolutely no reason I'd be expecting them to switch medicines now.

Also, this pharmacy is notorious for not filling my orders properly. I have had orders not filled on time, or only received half the amount of pills I was supposed to get. So when I open the bag and see some random medicine I've never heard of, of course I'm going to come back and make sure it's not a(nother) screw-up. But apparently it would be too much effort to think ahead and tell me that so I don't have to make another trip back to the store.

*sigh* If it weren't the only pharmacy that's convenient, I'd totally stop going there.

I think it's the more valuable easily shoplifted item. Shampoo is harder to shoplift and cheaper to the company when stolen.

Ahh, perils of the monopoly.

Luckily, Duane Reade, Walgreens and CVS are all located conveniently to me, and they all suck equally hard. I've never noticed that headphones deal, though. Maybe the kids these days are bending them towards some malicious purpose unknown to us oldheads. Snorting them or something.

I know, it sucks enough to be in a situation to need it. Don't need someone else making me feel worse.

All the stores around here lock everything up so I'm pretty certain that there's a huge shoplifting issue. I mean I got beeped at KMart over a simple bottle of nail polish that the checkout person forgot to wave over the magic de-beeper and the fellow at the door made me dig out the receipt from my purse just to prove that I bought it.

My 60 year old aunt is a pharmacist, and she is constantly bemoaning the death of her industry. According to her, pharmacists used to have skills and integrity and standards for their work; now it's pretty much just unskilled labor by people who don't pay attention and seem not to care if they give you the wrong dose or the wrong medicine and accidentally kill you.

On a side note, I shop lifted for the first time this week. I was in line at the grocery store kind of late, when the cashier just up and left without explaining or apologizing or anything. So after waiting for a few minutes until it was clear he wasn't coming back, I went to find another line but only the self check out was open. After checking myself out, I paid for everything, and as I was about to leave I noticed that I hadn't scanned my gallon of soy milk. Too pissed off and frustrated to go through the whole process again, I just threw it in the bag and walked out. No one stopped me.

Oh, what a rebel I am. :)

TRUE CVS STORY: they didn't have my sleeping pills ready once, so they went ahead and tried to sell me a Nuva Ring. Um. Problem solved?

Stores are obsessed with locking up small electronics, no matter how much they cost.

That just makes no sense (the shop policy, not you). O_o

I hate it when they substitute your usual medicine for the generic one and expect you to just accept the fact!

*hugs*
