Day 16 - Your guilty pleasure show

I don't watch many guilty pleasure shows, but oh, once upon a time, there was Jericho. It started out promising - a nuclear attack has devastated the United States, and it's the story of a small Kansas town trying to survive in what's basically a post-apocalyptic world (which, as you know, is my kink). But it was so laughably bad that it was impossible to take it seriously. The insane troll logic on that show tended to make Joss Whedon plots look like works of sheer brilliance. I have to admit, the brief second season showed some promise, and that might've been a show I could watch unironically. But honestly, the best part was watching Jake and Awesome Hawkins being awesome, while everyone else acted like bumbling idiots.

It still cracks me up that, with all the brilliant-but-canceled shows out there, this is the one that gets saved by a fan campaign. I was half hoping that the second season would end on a cliffhanger, too, just to see the fans (all twelve of them) go nuts (heh) again.

Honorable Mention: 24 started out as a real favorite show, but now it's just so ridiculous that it's also impossible to take seriously.

And the rest of the days, for those who want to play along...

How, all this time, have I missed the fact that post-apocalyptic scenarios are your kink? [livejournal.com profile] penny_lane_42 and I talk about them all the time, but I had no idea you shared the enthusiasm.

It begs the question: why've you never written one?

Ooh! Ooh ooh ooh! Have you read [livejournal.com profile] deird1's Come Crashing Down? It's 1500 words of exactly what you're talking about: brief lines that suggest whole apocalyptic landscapes. It's got character death and other really angsty things and is not the thing to read when you're feeling down, but I think it may be the post-apocalyptic fic of my year.

(Also, there's now a remix fic of it, Otherwise a Perfect Sky, which is less hinty but does an interesting job of totally reinterpreting Deird's story.)

I saw some episodes of that show a while back. It did look completely ridiculous. I can't believe they managed to get a second season...

Finished d/l season 3 of Chuck today. *\o/*

Yeah I read about that yesterday... I was telling my friend Heather about the Chuck/Subway thing and googled it and found this (http://www.tvguide.com/news/subway-save-chuck-1005397.aspx) about the other fan led campaigns to save a show. *g*
