Talk to me!

Stealing this meme from
angearia, because I always like these kinds of questiony things. Means I don't have to come up with things to talk about! :)
Comment here with a question, any question. It can be about fandom (tv shows, fanfic, anything) or personal. I'll do my best to answer and then ask you a question in turn. It can be silly (Bananas--yes or no? Clowns eating bananas--scary or endearing?) or serious (What is the meaning of life? And if you know why aren't you spreading the word, my god you are an awful evangelical!).

Date: Mar. 7th, 2010 11:56 pm (UTC)I think I might have to go with An Echolls Family Christmas for sheer quotability, plus the beginning of the Logan/Veronica thaw and the shocker ending. But I also love the use of unreliable narrators in A Trip to the Dentist (enough that I wrote a whole BtVS fic based on that episode). Hmmm. Dilemma.
What made you start writing fanfic?

Date: Mar. 8th, 2010 12:28 am (UTC)Hmmm, my favorite shows tend to be either shows that make me think, or shows that make me laugh (but of course the best ones do both). Chuck is definitely in the laugh category, lol. I think it's mostly about the characters - Chuck has a great supporting cast. Casey is the craziest mofo who ever lived (what is it with Adam Baldwin playing these kinds of characters? lol), Awesome is... well, awesome (and I absolutely love that they have a character named Captain Awesome. It's like the best kind of Mary Sueing), and Jeffster! OMG I die every time they do a musical number. But I do like that there's some depth to it - Yvonne Strahovski can really bring it in the emotional scenes, and Zachary Levi is both talented AND adorable. (Spike is the kind of guy I'd lust over, but Chuck is the kind of guy I'd date, you know?)
What's the one thing you never want fandom to find out about you? *eg*

Date: Mar. 8th, 2010 12:55 am (UTC)I love Casey--he never fails to amuse me with his badass demeanor. And I loved him saying he was proud of Chuck in last week's episode. And of course Sarah meanwhile was worried at how good a spy he was becoming. You're right, Yvonne definitely brings the emotions. I just love the entire cast. Remember the episode where a secret code was hidden in that game? And Chuck had to defeat it in front of that huge crowd? That ep had me rolling.
And your question is tricky! Because clearly such a secret is not meant to be revealed in virtual space. :P I don't think I have that many big secrets actually. Nothing really fandom-specific that I'd keep hidden. Mostly, I think I give this impression that I'm always an upbeat and nice person, but the truth is that I try to be that way but I've got all these inner pessimistic, bitchy demons I'm fighting. I procrastinate and I can be really judgmental sometimes and just bitch-bitch-bitchy.

Date: Mar. 8th, 2010 01:02 am (UTC)Blast! You have caught on to my evil plan. I sometimes wonder how close my internet personality is to my real one. I'd like to think they're similar, but I'm pretty sure I'm much more clever and witty online. :)

Date: Mar. 8th, 2010 01:05 am (UTC)Hmm, one episode... I have to think. Weirdly, I think it's Marcie. Because I'm convinced the people who took her away at the end were from W&H and I think she's still an invisible assassin somewhere.

I definitely think Marcie had a lot of potential. It would've been cool to see her turn up again.

Most embarrassing thing you've ever done at a gig?

Date: Mar. 8th, 2010 04:52 pm (UTC)Any gig or a JM gig? Any gig, got a backstage pass to a Manchester band and didn't recognise one of them, had a v. long conversation about how disappointing the gig had been. Oops. JM gig, took my kid to a gig and it was the most embarrassingly bad gig ever. Never lived it down :D

Date: Mar. 10th, 2010 03:24 am (UTC)What was your first fandom, and when did you first get involved?
Re: Medical Nanites....
Date: Mar. 10th, 2010 03:38 am (UTC)Star Trek OS at 7 yrs old. I watched and watched those 79 eps and came to the conclusion that something I usually associated with men and women was going on between Kirk and Spock.
lol
No lie!
I asked my mother and she laughed and explained that it probablyw asnt what Gene had intended, and then was my ever-amused and staunch supporter when I began writing K/S at the ripe old age of 12.
Did I mention Mercedes Lackey was a pivotal reading influence? Think the Last Herald Mage trilogy. :D

Date: Mar. 10th, 2010 04:03 am (UTC)She was the strongest supporter of free speech and free literature that Ive ever met. I could read anything, from any part of the library...as long as I discussed the material in entirety with her afterwards.
:)
But there are definitely people in my life, who, the less known about my fandom preferences the better!
