Hoooooly shit. The thing I simultaneously love and loathe about Lost is the horribly lopsided pacing. Both the individual episodes and the season arcs as a whole tend to start off strong, lag painfully in the middle, to the point that I wonder why I'm still watching... and then the last 5 minutes/4 episodes end up being so unbelievably awesome that I cannot comprehend NOT finding out what's next.

I mean this in the best possible way: I hate you, Show.

Haha, okay, as soon as I complained about the useless flashbacks, we ended up getting FOUR in a row that I actually liked. The Desmond one didn't really tell us anything new, but it's DESMOND so who the fuck cares? And then the Sun/Jin flashback puts a whole new spin on their relationship. Going back to the rarely-tapped well of flashing back to what happened earlier on the island with Locke and Ben rather than before the crash was a refreshing change, and then Ben's backstory? OMG!!!!! Dude was creepy even as a kid.

I liked the whole Juliet/Sun sequence, both because we don't get many all-female interactions on this show (Kate and Juliet handcuffed together was one recently, but before that...?) and because it was really bittersweet to learn that Jin's the father, which means Sun's probably going to die. To which I say: NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Also, I literally LOL'd at Juliet's "I hate you" tacked onto the end of her message to Ben. I'm still pretty sure she's going to double-cross him (ETA from the future: YAY I WAS RIGHT), but now I'm curious about her comment regarding Kate. Did they intentionally let Kate and Sawyer share a cage so that they'd have sex, in the hopes of impregnating Kate? Or is that just a coincidence? (Is anything on this show a coincidence?) And now that we know the island jacks up a guy's sperm count, it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that Kate's gonna be preggers, too, am I right?

Okay, I know applying reason to this show is futile, but let's talk about the island for a minute. We know that it (1) cures (or at least prevents) cancer, unless you're Ben, (2) heals paralysis, (3) revives victims of the Sonic Wall of Death (never mind, apparently Kate is just inept at taking a pulse), (4) increases sperm counts fivefold, and (5) heals punctured lungs in a couple days. However it does nothing for being shot, stabbed, bludgeoned, crushed by a plane, blown up by dynamite, or death by smoke monster. Oh, and it actively kills otherwise healthy pregnant women, which may or may not be related to the infection that killed Rousseau's team. Is there some sort of common thread I'm missing here, or is it as totally random as it seems???

Unless the island's healing powers are such that NO ONE actually died and season 4 is going to be Zombie!Lost where Boone, Shannon, Eko, Libby, Ana Lucia, Nikki, Paolo, and everyone else claws their way out of their graves to take revenge on the survivors.

Or, according to Naomi, everyone is already dead. I called it! :) Which means the opposite is probably true, lol, based on my theory that this show would never reveal the truth within a reasonable time frame. Unless it IS the truth, and they're throwing it out there now so that we'll think it's a red herring and keep looking for another explanation.

...this is how people go crazy, isn't it?

Okay, you guys, you win. I don't dislike Sawyer anymore. I still don't particularly LIKE him, you know, as a person, but I really enjoyed the face-off with the original Sawyer, and Josh Holloway turned in a better-than-usual performance. Also, he's been good for comic relief quite a bit lately. And I admit to feeling a smidgen of sympathy for his role in the Quadrangle of DOOM, being used by Kate when she's jealous of Jack and Juliet (ugh, REALLY KATE?). So, fine, Sawyer, you can stay.

(Also, I think it's hilarious that three-quarters of the QoD are so patently unlikable. I mean, sure, Juliet makes sense, because she's some quality awesomesauce, but seriously, who in their right mind would fight over Kate? Or get angsty over Jack or Sawyer? Though I suppose there's an argument to be made that they deserve each other. Most gratingly awful threesome EVER.)

Sooo... Ben has an imaginary friend... and he's got a temper, apparently. For a while there, I actually thought they were going to go the "Ben is just completely fucking nuts" route, but clearly this Jacob fellow is real, albeit somewhat invisible. Also, I'm thinking this is what y'all were referring to when I made that comment about the island ditching the Others in favor of its new friends? Jacob seeming to choose Locke over Ben for... whatever?

No idea what his deal is, btw, but I did think he looked a wee bit piratey? I also noticed that Richard seems not to have aged since Ben came to the island. So maybe the natives (now the Others, minus the ones Ben brought here himself) are the eternally cursed crew of the Black Pearl Rock, and they will haunt the island until someone finds their buried treasure hidden somewhere on the island. This is my new theory, and I am sticking to it until I find another pop culture reference to riff.

I gotta say, it was driving me nuts how they kept teasing us with Desmond foreseeing Charlie's death, and then he friggin' survives every time! I just kept thinking, if this show kills Sun and leaves Charlie alive I will RIOT. And then... they kind of made me feel bad for the poor little hobbit. Nicely poignant that one of the most selfish characters on the island ends up sacrificing himself to save everyone else (or, okay, mostly Claire, but still). On the other hand - NOT PENNY'S BOAT, you know, so Charlie dying seems a little futile at that point. I realize he's afraid of changing things (like how Desmond thinks that the parachuter wasn't Penny because he saved Charlie), but... I dunno, if Naomi is lying, then would Claire getting in the helicopter even be a good thing? There was really no good reason why he couldn't have made it out along with Desmond - for one thing, maybe have the scuba gear ready before you enter the code, because Lord knows, these people should realize by now that button-pushing ALWAYS has unintended consequences. But even when Mikhail appeared at the porthole, Charlie still had time to run over to Desmond and close the door - why not close it with himself on the OUTSIDE?

Speaking of characters who were beaten with the stupid stick, I do not even want to talk about Jack's idiotic insistence on secrecy in the last few episodes or his continued obstinacy in the face of logic. Or his inability to use words, but hey, why explain your plan when you can march the entire camp up to a clearing and blow up a tree? I should've known it would be all downhill from there. Although he sadly did not get punched in the face, I am very glad to see Rose threaten it (and can only hope she follows through someday), as well as Sayid getting in his face about who stayed behind. Fortunately, there was enough craziness and revelations and confrontations and Hurley with the hippie bus** and Sayid killing people with his LEGS to keep me interested despite thinking that Jack went to the Joss Whedon School of Strategic Planning.

**What is the deal with everyone being assholes to Hurley about his weight lately? First Charlie's crack about "You wouldn't fit in the boat" and then Sawyer implying that he was too fat to help them. I was kind of hoping he'd run Sawyer over with the bus, too, just to prove a point.

And, okay, now we are doing flashforwards? I'm down, even if Jack is doing his best House impression. I was already spoiled in knowing that eventually they switched up the flashbacks for flashes in other directions, so I was not all OMGWTFpolarbear, and I might possibly have said out loud, "Your father's DEAD, Jack!" when he kept insisting on a drunk-off. I'm still not convinced they're actually going to get rescued - for one thing, there's three more seasons of the show, and besides, knowing Locke, he'll probably blow up the helicopter that comes to get them or something - so I don't know if this is just one possible future or if it's going to happen but maybe not right away. Or none of this is real and it's just to fuck with our heads some more. :)

Yay for Desmond! The more Desmond the better imo. :D

Loving your thoughts on Lost. Looking forward to hearing what you think of S4!

Heh. I did not know you used to dislike Sawyer, but that fact amuses me since ~everyone loves him.

As for my own unpopular opinion, marvel at the fact that Jack and Kate are the characters I'm most invested in. Yeah, you heard me. Why? Who knows. I don't choose these things. *Kanye-shrug*

Oh, no, individually. I don't mind them together, though I don't really have any investment either way in ~the terrible triangle.

As for Sawyer, I... actually think his interest level goes down as the series progresses. Though, idk, I am one of those weirdos who finds the other two leads more interesting (though less likeable?) than Sawyer. As... previously mentioned.

Well, I guess it depends on how much you actually identify/sympathise with the character's motives/underlying damage, though. I find Jack and Kate pretty relatable, but lol, I know that is not the case for most people.

Precisely. *nods emphatically* Oh, LOST...what you do to us!

Okay, you guys, you win. I don't dislike Sawyer anymore.

This made me laugh because the exact same thing happened to me. I couldn't stand him when the show began. He kind of grows on you, I guess. :D
