I has finished season 1!

So naturally, I have more thoughts. :)
Haha, so I'd noticed that they tend to show shots of Hurley listening to his Discman whenever they want to do a musical montage. And no sooner had I thought, "How will they do their montages once the batteries wear out?" than the damn thing goes dead and the music abruptly cuts off, lol. Well-played, Show.
I also noticed that the characters tend to pop up in each others' flashbacks - not just in the airport, which makes sense, but little things like seeing Hurley on TV, Sawyer being escorted through the police station while Boone's there to report Shannon's boyfriend, or Hurley seeing Charlie in the elevator at the hotel. I don't know if that's supposed to imply some sort of connecting thread among all these people or if it's just, as Sawyer says, a small world.
Okay, Locke's still a total psycho, but the cradle for Claire's baby was sweet.
Speaking of Locke, when he and Boone found the drug smugglers' plane full of heroin, I totally went, "Well, Charlie'll be happy." :) I so called that one.
Aww, sad. Boone's dead. Bye, Boone.
I admit to being confused as to what exactly Sayid sees in Shannon (other than, y'know, HOT). I mean, granted, it's slim pickings with Jack and Sawyer both calling dibs on Kate, Charlie following Claire around like a puppy, and you pretty much risk losing an arm if you even look at Sun the wrong way. But there must be other women on the island who aren't in the main credits, and shallow, useless Shannon's not exactly his type.
Charlie following Sawyer around, making him talk to the baby! LOL! I do enjoy watching people drive Sawyer crazy.
Speaking of which, he redeemed himself a little by telling Jack about his father, but I am still not convinced to like him. It's kind of like, yes, that's what decent human beings do, you don't get a cookie for it.
I am almost maybe sold on Jin, however. He and Michael are funny together, the scene where he and Sun made up was nice, and it was sad when he had to leave her.
The whole launching of the raft thing made me a little misty. Everybody pitching in to help, and Charlie with the notes in the bottle, and OMG the dog chasing after them. Gah! I am actually pretty sure I'd seen it before, probably when I was staying at my parents' house or something, but it was still moving. HOWEVER. I have seen Gilligan's Island. I know how these things go. Ten bucks says they end up right back on the island within a week.
I found myself really hoping Science Teacher Dude would die in an explosion. Hey! Wish granted. Obvious plot twist is obvious. After all the talking about how dangerous it was, someone had to die, and it wasn't going to be one of the main characters. And then there's really no tension when Locke and Jack are handling the dynamite, because I'm pretty darn sure neither of them is going to get blown to bits. Try subverting expectations, Show!
"Do you think we're being punished? For the secrets we kept, the lies we told." It's as good a theory as any, Sun. :) The interesting thing about that exchange, though, was hearing that Claire, the girl who believes in astrology and consults psychics, thinks there's no such thing as fate. Locke, on the other hand, has the flavor of religious nutjob with his talk about having faith and the island testing him. Of course, knowing this show, the religious nutjob perspective is probably the right one.
I feel like they are not terribly strategic about things, when there are decisions about who does what. Like who goes on the raft, for instance. I mean, I get that Michael's whole plan was to save his son, but if you're only going to send four people, shouldn't they be the four people who can contribute the most to surviving on a raft in the middle of the ocean? A ten-year-old kid is not going to be particularly helpful. Kate may have been angling to get off the island so she didn't get caught, but she did have a point - somebody should have sailing experience. And then again with the dynamite - it makes absolutely zero sense for the only person with medical training to risk getting blown to bits. I realize Jack has a compulsive need to do everything remotely dangerous himself, but he really ought to recognize that he has an irreplaceable skill set.
On another note, am I the only one who was like, "Kate, take the damn backpack off before you start running!" Did she forget she was carrying dynamite?? I mean, okay, she wasn't, actually, because Jack's a control freak, but she didn't know that.
Charlie's kinda stupid. Sayid is a total BAMF. The gunpowder in the wound thing? Hardcore.
WTF is up with the "kidnapping children" theme of this show?

I find this so fun
Date: Aug. 19th, 2010 01:18 am (UTC)-- How much of Jin's back story do yo know so far? [/curious and too lazy to go look it up]
-- I still have hope that you might end up liking Sawyer, if you found his telling Jack about his dad even a tiny bit redemptive (if not cookie worthy). He does with the growth :)
-- LOL, dynamite. That scene is never not funny.
-- Don't worry, the kidnapping children thing is not entirely random...
Season Two soon! Sweet! Speaking of musical montages, Season Two opens with one of the best, certainly on Lost, maybe ever.

Date: Aug. 19th, 2010 04:09 am (UTC)This show really is Gilligan's Island with weird science. Yup.
(I see that WW mood icon. I see it!)

Date: Jan. 20th, 2012 04:58 am (UTC)We've also watched the first episode or 2 of season 2, and Michael had to shoot the shark going after Sawyer. Poor shark was just hungry. Also, I noticed some weird marking on the shark as he swam by, Seamus didn't see it, had to rewind, but then saw that I was right. Same sort of marking as the bomb shelter hatch stuff? I dunno. My theory was that it was a robo-shark, but Seamus pointed out that blood popped up. Oh well. I'll have to see if I can read your other reactions yet.
Also, if no t-rexes pop up, we will be very disappointed. Keep hoping for that.

Date: Jun. 22nd, 2013 04:12 am (UTC)I totally felt Sayid/Shannon. Like, I think Shannon was someone who felt very conscious of her ability to ~inspire, for good or ill, and her clinging to normalcy with the makeup and brattiness actually makes a lot of sense to me as something that would appeal to Sayid's ~inner dreamer.

Date: Jun. 23rd, 2013 10:41 pm (UTC)We shall have to agree to disagree on Sayid/Shannon, tho. Boone/Shannon FTW.
