Let's see, Jin's backstory. He said his father was dead because he was ashamed of him, but he is in fact alive and a fisherman (which explains why Jin's so good at it). In order to marry Sun, he had to agree to work for her father, who uses him as an enforcer. The only way for Jin to get out of it is for him and Sun to run away, which he was planning to do once they got to LA. In the airport, Jin meets someone who works for Mr. Paik, who warns him if he tries to escape, he'll lose Sun. Sun suspects bad things, but she gets mad at Jin rather than her father and learned English in order to run away from him, but she changed her mind at the airport and got on the flight with him.
