Haha, I don't know what it is exactly about ST. I've only seen it twice, so maybe it hasn't settled, lol? But with most of Sondheim's music I love it instantly, and then spend years uncovering all the themes. ST just failed to grab me on that visceral level.
(It occurs to me that, for someone who is a musician, I have a terrible time talking about music, because so much of it is about ~feelings that's hard to put into words, lol.)
