Next to last day of the Awesome Ladies meme! What am I gonna picspam now? Hahahaha, I started making icons. I am insane.

Day Twenty-Nine: A female-centric fic rec Late Bloomer Appreciation Day!
Elena Gilbert, Anne Boleyn, Juliet Burke, and Lady Mary Crawley

For those of you who haven't been keeping track, I started this meme in MARCH. That's SEVEN MONTHS AGO. Do you know how much television I can watch in seven months?? Needless to say, I have discovered plenty of awesome ladies in these shows, which I hadn't factored into my allocation of meme days. (And even without them, I was doubling and tripling up on some days. I'm reasonably certain that by the time I'm done, I will have covered EVERY SINGLE FEMALE CHARACTER from all of my favorite shows, lol.) So I've decided to take a day to talk about a few of the ladies whose awesomeness I came to appreciate only recently.

ELENAAAAAAAA. What can I say about my girl? I blame [personal profile] ever_neutral for making me an Elena fan, because she is like the queen of Elena-stanning (and haha, I really hope those are the right posts, because LJ is down so I can't actually see them. I just grabbed the links from my LJ notification emails based on the comments and hoped for the best *facepalm*). So, I used to think that Caroline and Damon were my holy-overidentification-issues-Batman characters on this show. I didn't even really like Elena that much when I watched the first season. But... Elena=Damon in SO MANY WAYS that, yeah, turns out I am actually pretty Elena-ish, too. Good God, I need moar therapy.

BEST THING ABOUT THE TUDORS, BAR NONE. Natalie Dormer is FLAWLESS. Anne Boleyn is clever and bold and strong-willed and FABULOUS and kind of made me wish they'd rewrite history so she didn't die after only two seasons because BEST THING ABOUT THIS SHOW. Also, I kind of covet all of her clothes.

Yeah, pretty much ditto everything I said about Anne Boleyn. Except for the clothes part, because I can't really pull off "island grunge." I know a lot of people were pissed about the ending and the convoluted storytelling and the lack of explanations, but chief among my complaints about Lost is NOT ENOUGH JULIET.

Unexpected Favorite Character! Lady Mary is certainly not the kind of character you expect to like. When we first meet her, she's selfish, shallow, judgmental, and cruel. (LOLOLOL okay, who are we kidding, that is TOTALLY MY TYPE.) But that's what makes her complex and fascinating. About halfway through the first season, I was like, "Wait, Lady Mary is my FAVORITE? How did THAT happen?" We eventually see that she does have a great deal of compassion and is humble enough to admit when she's misjudged someone - and my heart just breaks for her over and over. (Psst, if you are not watching Downton Abbey, GET TO IT. You're missing out.)
