1. Favorite childhood book?
Oooh, tough. Probably A Ring of Endless Light by Madeleine L'Engle.

2. What are you reading right now?
Nothing fun. I didn't want to start anything fun because I knew I'd be tempted to read that instead of my reading for class.

3. What books do you have on request at the library?
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. In typical library fashion, I had holds on both that and Mockingjay, and guess which one became available first?

4. Bad book habit?
I tend to go to extremes - either I'll get so into a book that I read it all in one sitting, or it takes me forever to get through it because I'll put it down and not pick it up again for weeks.

5. What do you currently have checked out at the library?
The Green Book: The Everyday Guide to Saving the Planet One Simple Step at a Time by Elizabeth Rogers and Thomas M. Kostigen, Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Why We Need a Green Revolution and How It Can Renew America by Thomas L. Friedman, Freedom From Oil: How the Next President Can End the United States' Oil Addiction by David Sandalow - who can guess what policy class I'm taking this semester? lol (Also, do authors get paid by the word in their title or something? Because holy crap.) Oh, and Mockingjay.

6. Do you have an e-reader?
Not yet. I keep flirting with the idea so I won't have to print out thousands of pages of articles for my class reading, but I keep dithering over which one I want and remain indecisive.

7. Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once?
One at a time, though I often am reading something fun as well as stuff for school.

8. Have your reading habits changed since starting a blog?
No. I read less than I used to, for various reasons, but it's not a direct result of blogging.

9. Least favorite book you read this year (so far?)
Haha, well, it's only been two weeks, so let's look at last year. I read a lot of doozies for class, but in terms of pleasure reading, I'd say The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

10. Favorite book you’ve read this year?
Oooh, I don't know, I read a lot of good books last year. Probably either The Passage or one of the Connie Willis time travel ones.

11. How often do you read out of your comfort zone?
Not too often, I guess. I do read a lot based on recommendations from other people, which I probably wouldn't have picked on my own, but it's all stuff I figured I'd probably like based on what the person said.

12. What is your reading comfort zone?
I'm not entirely sure what this question is asking? Genre? I tend to read in a lot of different ones, though my favorite books tend to be the ones that combine elements of more than one genre (such as the Willis books, which combine SF with historical fiction).

13. Can you read on the bus?
Yes. Makes the commute much nicer.

14. Favorite place to read?
The sofa or my bed.

15. What is your policy on book lending?.
Depends on how responsible the person is. As long as I can expect to get it back, it's fine. :)

16. Do you ever dog-ear books?
Occasionally... but usually only school stuff when I need to remember something to reference it later, but I don't have a bookmark or something to jot down a note of the page number.

17. Do you ever write in the margins of your books?
No.

18. Not even with text books?
Nope, although I get a lot of my books used, so they tend to be already written in.

19. What is your favorite language to read in?
English, it's the only one I can. Well, technically I could read French with some effort, but having to stop and look up words all the time is annoying.

20. What makes you love a book?
Hmmm, characters I care about, mostly, but I also enjoy a good plot and skillful world-building.

21. What will inspire you to recommend a book?
Well, if it's a book I stay up past my bedtime just to finish it, that's probably a good sign. :)

22. Favorite genre?
Books that defy genre. :)

23. Genre you rarely read (but wish you did?)
I always feel like I should read more classic literature.

24. Favorite biography?
Prayer for the City by Buzz Bissinger.

25. Have you ever read a self-help book?
Uh, I had to read How to Win Friends and Influence People for one of my classes, but I think that's it...

26. Favorite cookbook?
I dunno... I just got a new one so I am still trying it out.

27. Most inspirational book you’ve read this year (fiction or non-fiction)?
Huh. I don't know that I've read anything inspiring. Most of my school reading was depressing or just plain boring, and the fiction I've read isn't really the inspiring type.

28. Favorite reading snack?
I don't really have one.

29. Name a case in which hype ruined your reading experience.
Hmm. I can't think of anything off the top of my head. I don't tend to read books with a lot of hype.

30. How often do you agree with critics about a book?
Heh, I rarely read critics.

31. How do you feel about giving bad/negative reviews?
I'm fine with it.

32. If you could read in a foreign language, which language would you choose?
French without the use of a dictionary would be nice.

33. Most intimidating book you’ve ever read?
Les Miserables in French.

34. Most intimidating book you’re too nervous to begin?
Nothing comes to mind...

35. Favorite Poet?
Not a big poetry fan.

36. How many books do you usually have checked out of the library at any given time?
Depends on (a) how many school books I was able to find at the library and (b) how much of a fun reading kick I am on.

37. How often have you returned book to the library unread?
Rarely. Hence the overdue fines. :-P

38. Favorite fictional character?
Oh, man, I don't know. I am tempted to say Katniss just because The Hunger Games is the last thing I read, lol.

39. Favorite fictional villain?
Javert. :)

40. Books I’m most likely to bring on vacation?
Whatever's next on my list.

41. The longest I’ve gone without reading.
I can go months without reading a book for fun, just because I don't have time, but I'm always reading something, even if I'm not particularly enjoying it.

42. Name a book that you could/would not finish.
Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. It was the favorite book of a friend of mine in high school, so I gave it a shot, but James Joyce and I do not get along.

43. What distracts you easily when you’re reading?
Depends how good the book is. :)

44. Favorite film adaptation of a novel?
Anne of Green Gables. I actually prefer the movie to the book.

45. Most disappointing film adaptation?
I don't know... can I say The Dresden Files TV show? That was a whole lot of wasted potential.

46. The most money I’ve ever spent in the bookstore at one time?
Ha! When I was in undergrad, I'd spend a good $300 a semester (and then sell the whole lot back for about $50. Grrrr).

47. How often do you skim a book before reading it?
Never, though occasionally I will peek at the ending. :)

48. What would cause you to stop reading a book half-way through?
If it's poorly written.

49. Do you like to keep your books organized?
I alphabetize by author, with my school books on a separate shelf.

50. Do you prefer to keep books or give them away once you’ve read them?
Keep them, although I don't actually buy a lot (big fan of the library).

51. Are there any books you’ve been avoiding?
Twilight.

52. Name a book that made you angry.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

53. A book you didn’t expect to like but did?
Catch-22, which I read as an assignment in high school.

54. A book that you expected to like but didn’t?
Catcher in the Rye, also in high school. Everyone seems to think it's fabulous, but I wasn't too impressed.

55. Favorite guilt-free, pleasure reading?
Chick lit, though I read a LOT less of it than I used to.

I completely agree about James Joyce. I think he was ruined for me by a really bad high school English teacher, who refused to explain anything to us despite it being a level or two above our level.

I like this meme! I may have to give this one a try. :)

Interesting answers. I started The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo last year, but couldn't get into it at all. I may give it another try, but I have a feeling it isn't going to be for me.

I hated that book!
And I also liked Catch 22. And loved Catcher in the Rye. Mostly because I think it was very relate-able, reading it in high school, which I hated.
Some kids I subbed for recently had to read Lord of the Flies, and were trying to get me to tell them what happened in it. I couldn't remember too much, but I did tell them that I didn't like the book, and no, it didn't get better.
Also, you've made me wonder if maybe I can find some school books at the library....I kind of doubt it though.
