Monday update
Oct. 25th, 2010 10:53 amHi, kids. Well, I'd say I had a rather productive weekend. I managed to complete almost everything on my list, except for the homework (which I have until Wednesday to do anyway) and the vacuuming (more about that in a minute).
I had two rather epic shopping excursions (and one quick run to the grocery store to buy more Scrubbing Bubbles when I ran out while cleaning the bathroom), which really shouldn't have been epic, but nothing can be simple, I suppose. One of my goals for this weekend was to go back to Dress Barn and buy a particular dress I liked but didn't buy the last time I was there. It's super cute, and apparently quite popular, since they were completely out of it this time, so I bought two other dresses instead. But I wasn't quite happy with them, because they just barely fit, and if I gained any weight, they'd be too small, but they didn't have them in the next size up. I have learned my lesson about buying clothes with the intention of losing weight in order to wear them (it never works), so I decided to try another store, where they DID have the sweater dress, but not the other two in the right size (but they did have another cute dress, which I also bought, so now I think I'm going to return the almost-too-small ones). All in all, a success, though it will likely involve at least three trips to two different Dress Barns when all is said and done.
My other epic shopping trip was, you'd think, a relatively simple task: I needed a liquid measuring cup, a cheese grater, and vacuum cleaner bags. My first stop was Target, which I expected to have everything. They had... the cheese grater. They were out of the liquid measuring cups - I wanted glass, but they only had plastic in stock. The one I have now is plastic, and it is cracked all to hell and kinda leaks, so I'd like not to repeat that experience. And apparently, they do not carry vacuum cleaner bags AT ALL. At that point, I left the cheese grater in disgust and walked out. My next stop was Bed Bath and Beyond, which, again, you'd expect to have everything. I did better this time - I managed to find the measuring cup AND the cheese grater, as well as a pair of tongs I forgot I wanted. But again, struck out on the vacuum cleaner bags. Apparently, they are obsolete or something? According to the BB&B sales guy, they don't make vacuum cleaners with bags anymore, so no one sells the bags in stores, and you have to order them online. Which I did. And I suppose my floor will stay dirty until they arrive.
I also managed to fit in a fair amount of TV. I am finally caught up on Brothers & Sisters (it has taken about 3 years, lol). I think I underestimated how much the "Kitty has cancer" story would hit close to home, because I was kind of crying through a lot of it. I also watched the first episode of Sherlock, which is now airing on PBS. I really liked it - especially the rapid-paced witty banter, which sounds like what you'd get if Aaron Sorkin was British. Although I did roll my eyes a bit at the fact that the big climax was essentially the Battle of Wits scene from The Princess Bride.
In WTF news, apparently there's going to be ANOTHER BSG spin-off. Granted, it turns out Caprica is (perhaps not surprisingly) a lot more interesting when you watch the episodes in the proper order (I did that over the weekend, too). But it's still not that great, so I'm not sure why they think another prequel show is the answer. Oh well. It's not like Syfy has any other decent programming.
So that was my weekend. How was yours?
