The Dreamwidth FAQ certainly says you can add OpenIDs to filters, as well as DW users.
I'm not sure I understand the FAQ on RSS feeds, though: it sounds like if I log onto the feed, it will check my authorisation to view your protected entries and show them to me if I'm allowed to, but that will only work if I'm using a web browser with cookies enabled. Or something like that.
Maybe you should create a locked post that just says "If you can read this please comment!" and see who replies? (Or do a poll. "Can you read this? Yes/No" *g*)
