True. Although I think Spike is much better at that before he falls in love with Buffy. He does it some in S6, but the truth often gets mixed up in what he wants from Buffy, and it's harder for him to see straight. And he hardly ever questions her in S7, probably because he doesn't trust himself.
But I can totally see him getting back in that role if he and Buffy met up post-"Chosen" when he's more adjusted to the soul.
