I completely agree with everything. I just want to block this episode from my mind. Had I not spent 5 years with this show and if I didn't still care about these characters, I would drop this show faster than a hot biscuit.
At this point all they are doing is trying to string us along. Like you said, "will-they-won't-they." I think the worry is loss of interest or some BS. But I am sick of sitting around waiting for something to happen. I am tired of shipping them and at this point I could care less. I want my old Bones back. Circa seasons 1 and 2.
You said one of the things about Bones for you was Aliens in a Spaceship. Which is one of my favorite episodes. No doubt. I want that back.
