Yeah, it's one thing to not explain every detail to you, but when you have to fanwank huge swaths of plot and characterization in order for an episode makes sense? I'm gonna go ahead and call that fail.
I did appreciate their attempts to bring up little things in this "first" case that have been mentioned throughout the show
I thought a lot of that seemed really forced. Like Brennan being the cause of Booth's rebellion - why can't he just be an individual on his own? Why does Brennan have to be the one to tell him? (Other than, of course, it's another clue they're Made For Each Other because she helps him to be himself or some bullshit.) And all the stuff with the squints, like the Very First Experiment coinciding with the first time the whole team has worked together - why does everything have to have happened for the first time on the same case?? And Hodgins line about "Do you get the feeling something great almost happened?" or whatever? *eyeroll* WE GET IT.
I thought maybe when they gave each other that look after Sweets asked how long their affair lasted they would throw him for a loop and say that it was STILL lasting
Heh, I thought that, too, for a second, but that would've been an ENORMOUS retcon that I don't think ANYONE would've accepted gracefully, so I figured them lying to Sweets was the more likely option.
And yeah, I'm pretty sure your scenario is exactly how the rest of the season will play out. So... awesome, now I don't have to watch it.
