As part of my renewed effort at making this dating thing work, I've been advised to "know what I want." I mean, when I try to create a wish list of the qualities/characteristics that I want my ideal guy to have, I typically get as far as "intelligent, good sense of humor... uh... likes Buffy?" and give up. I am all like, "I DON'T KNOOOOOOW. I DON'T HAVE A ~TYPE." Even though I totally do. I just don't really know what it is?

But, as we all know, I have FAR TOO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT FICTIONAL CHARACTERS. So I figured, maybe that's a place to start? Figure out what I like about these particular characters I envisage as my future husbands, and see what they have in common!

My TV boyfriends:

1. Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi)

Obvious choice is obvious. There's a reason I have a tag called "Zachary Levi is my TV boyfriend." And while I have come to the conclusion that Zac himself is a delightful human being with whom I would probably get along fabulously (call me!), for the purposes of this exercise, we shall be sticking to fictional characters.

So. Why do I love Chuck? Well, I have a thing for hot nerds. He's obviously super-smart, not just with computers, but he's a great problem-solver and capable of thinking outside the box when missions go awry. He starts out kinda immature and in a dead-end job, but he grows so much over the course of the show and takes the opportunities he's given to learn new skills, which shows that he does have ambition and determination. He's sensitive - one of the things I always enjoyed about the Sarah/Chuck relationship is that he was always the one to declare his feelings, to want to ~talk about their relationship because I am emotionally stunted and commitment-phobic like Sarah. I cannot with guys who are afraid to express their feelings or whatever. ONLY ONE OF US CAN BE WEIRD ABOUT ~FEELINGS IN THIS RELATIONSHIP AND IT'S GOING TO BE ME, OKAY?

I love that he's not too cool to make geeky pop culture references, and even though we don't have totally identical interests (I've never played a video game in my life, for instance), I get the sense that he'd indulge my fannish quirks, even if he didn't share them. (He totes loves Buffy, though. I mean, have you SEEN Sarah?)

Also, he's adorable. I have a lot of ambivalence about the role of physical attraction in a relationship (it makes me feel shallow, but it's kinda important, yo), and Chuck just does it for me. That smile kills me. Not sure what was happening on top of his head in the early years - I prefer the less floppy hair style of the later seasons, but I like the slight curl (it always seems like it'd be nice to run your fingers through). Also, he's clearly fit, especially once he starts with the kung fu. I'm not looking for a guy who's workout-obsessed (because I SO AM NOT), and he doesn't have to have the body of a Greek god, but... you know, somebody I enjoy looking at with his shirt off...

2. Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott)

Can we say FUTURE HUSBAND? I think we can. Obviously, Ben has the same fannish nerd thing going on that Chuck does (and even more aligned with my tastes). But he has one vital thing that Chuck lacks: politics! It's a big part of my life, both as my job and as something (a hobby? I guess you could call it that) I enjoy for fun. Love that he's smart and experienced in government, and I ADORE that he's willing to play First Lady to Future President Leslie (we all know it's gonna happen). He's modest and self-effacing, which comes in handy when he has his occasional Ben Wyatt: Human Disaster moments. I totally find his meltdowns charming, btw, if only because most of the time, he's so solid and stable.

Speaking of solid, though... I don't know if it's all of Leslie's jokes last week about his size, but he does seem a bit scrawny for me, haha. I am not exactly a delicate flower myself, and I prefer a guy where I don't feel like I could snap him like a twig, lol.

3. Kai Booker (Sebastian Pigott)

KAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIII. Adorable. Loyal. Determined - I mean, this is a dude who doesn't let the laws of time and space interfere when it's a woman he loves. :) There's the whole OD'ed-on-drugs thing, granted, but that's all in the past. Er, the future. Let's just say he's gotten past that phase, okay? Mid-therapy Kai is light years away from where he was when we first met him. Another one who grows and matures so much. He's learned his lesson about letting fame go to his head, and really is shockingly down to earth for a rock star. That's what I want - he doesn't have to be rich and famous, just someone who is talented and accomplished but doesn't have an ego about it.

Also, there's this:

Have I mentioned I am a total sucker for musicians? I am. I love them. Sing to me and I will SWOON. I am not even kidding - I have dated guys I would not give a second glance to if not for their ability to play an instrument. It's almost like a sickness but I don't wanna get better. But seriously, I definitely do want a guy who appreciates music (and theater and storytelling in all mediums, basically) as much as I do, and who understands the need for creative outlets in life.

So, there we have it. My top three TV boyfriends, and all the qualities I could want in a guy. (Okay, I probably forgot some important ones. Let me know which, lol.) Now I just need to find a guy who is a combination of all three... I don't have high standards or anything, right? What do y'all think? Who's YOUR ideal TV boyfriend?

NB: I wanted to add Tommy Donnelly, but [personal profile] per_aspera_ad_astra tells me that all the murdering is apparently a dealbreaker, so I will just throw this out there: IRISH. SIBLINGS. ALSO ON MY LIST OF IDEAL QUALITIES. (Really. I am an only child, so I'd love to date someone with siblings.)

Also notably absent from this list: Damon, Spike, and all the other life-ruiners and psychotic jackasses. While I totally would not kick them out of bed, I would not date them if my life depended on it. :-P

I agree with your Ben choice!

I don't know the other two! *doesn't watch much TV*

Also, Oz. Quiet, smart, thoughtful, weird, musician, pocket-sized. I'm all over that. *huggles*

While I totally would not kick them out of bed, I would not date them if my life depended on it.

I agree with this, also. I love Spike. But as a fuck-buddy, not a boyfriend. And only when he's chipped or otherwise not feeding on humans. *pets Spike*

lol!

Well, then, more Oz for me. :)

I think the quiet might be kinda weird, cause I'm often quiet too. However, Oz would be the kinda guy who wouldn't mind sitting quietly with someone, so I could dig it.

Omg, he is really tiny! I met him (Seth green, that is) with Rob (during our "are we still dating or not" phase), and Seth was shorter than Rob I think. He's probably like 5 feet.
I love Oz. Except I think he would be too similar to me in some ways.
I still love Jim from the office. Also JD from Scrubs. And there's probably more. I don't know much about your picks since I don't watch those shows.
