As an illustration of why you shouldn't ask professional writers to read your stuff, this is really only halfway relevant to fanfic, but there are just so many bits that I want to quote and say "Word!" Cooking with Eowyn, Mom edition

I just got an email from my mother:

"I decided to make soup. While I was waiting for the pan to heat, I came up to check the email and got distracted. Next thing, the alarm is going off and the firemen are on the way. Did you know that if your alarm goes off for fire, direct dispatch is mandatory in NJ? Not police, just fire. I didn't know that. 

"Fortunately, one of the firemen was [our neighbor - we went to kindergarten together], so they were nice to me.

"P.S. Patches is still hiding."

That sounds like something I would do, lol.
