End of the year meme

Snagged from [profile] bendy1.

1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
Lived on my own. I got my first real (non-college) apartment in February.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I didn’t make any New Year’s resolutions. I never do. I wouldn’t keep them anyway.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes. My friend Stephanie… who is several years older than me, so I don’t feel at all pressured to have babies of my own. Really.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.

5. What countries did you visit?

Bermuda.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?

Self-esteem.

7. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

I don’t actually remember the date, but an event that I will probably remember for quite some time was the unbelievably ridiculous four hour traffic jam James Marsters concert in NY. Eight hours in a car with Kelly and Becky, singing Once More With Feeling at the top of our lungs, playing the license plate game, eating a record number of Dunkin Donuts munchkins, and observing road rage in action. (Seriously, who parks their car on the shoulder in order to climb onto a truck and yell at the truck driver for not allowing you to illegally pass him on the shoulder??) Oh, and at the end of it all there was a pretty boy who sang songs and played the guitar.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Not starving to death? No kidding, I’ve been COOKING for myself. But seriously, I am kind of proud of myself for being independent, especially since most of my friends are still in college or grad school and don’t have jobs or responsibilities.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Um… remembering important events? I missed 3 birthdays and my parents’ anniversary.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

It seems like I always have a cold, but nothing serious.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Hmm… I know the most expensive thing was my new computer, but it’s yet to be seen whether I love it or hate it. (Right now, I still miss my Apple.)

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

I don't know. Maybe I'm just not in a celebratory mood.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
My boss. I’m so happy she left.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Rent, the computer, and probably Blockbuster online. But I watched a lot of damn DVDs, so I got my money’s worth.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

The whole new job/moving to a new city thing was kind of exciting.

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?

Probably none. I never listen to songs when they’re new anyway.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or sadder?
sadder
ii. thinner or fatter?
Probably about the same… I’m still wearing the same clothes, at any rate.
iii. richer or poorer?
Well, richer in that I’m making way more money than I was, but poorer because I’m not living with my parents anymore, so I have real expenses now. I guess it probably balances out.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Made new friends.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Crying.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With my parents. The extended family will come over for dinner Christmas Eve, and then we'll go to my aunt's house for Christmas Day.

22. Did you fall in love in 2007?

No.

23. How many one-night stands?

None.

24. What was your favourite TV programme?

Heroes and Friday Night Lights.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

No.

26. What was the best book you read?

I didn’t read much this year… probably White Night, the new Dresden book.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Kane, Christian Kane’s band. Who knew I’d like country?

28. What did you want and get?

A new laptop.

30. What was your favourite film of this year?

Hmm. *scurries off to check Blockbuster rental history* Probably Rent. Unless you mean a movie that actually came out this year, in which case, I’d probably be forced to say Shadow Undies, because I think it’s the only movie I’ve seen.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I turned 23. I clearly didn’t do anything memorable, since nothing’s coming to mind.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

A boyfriend.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
“You’re a grown up now. You should dress like one.”

34. What kept you sane?

Nothing. Which is unfortunate, since I probably could’ve done without the crazy.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
*giggles* Gee, that’s a tough one. Maybe that Jamses Masters guy…

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

Oh, man. There have been so many political issues stirred up this year. Damn never-ending primary season. Since I almost got a job in health care reform, that’s kinda been on my mind. That’s one of the (many, numerous, unending) reasons why I dislike the war – it overwhelms the debate and pushes important domestic issues aside. Anybody remember when Social Security was a problem? Did we fix that?

37. Who did you miss?

My friends. Now that we’re scattered all over the country, I don’t get to see them nearly as much as I did when we all lived within fifty yards of each other.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

Probably Lindsey, although technically, I may have talked to her once when we were in college. But we didn’t actually start hanging out until we both moved here.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:

When the fire alarm goes off in your apartment, open the windows – NOT THE DOOR! Opening the door sets off the alarm for the whole building, and then everyone has to evacuate and they get really pissed off at you for disrupting their quiet lives just because you can’t cook dinner without BURNING it.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year?
I want to heal, I want to feel
Like I’m close to something real
I want to find something I’ve wanted all along
Somewhere I belong

"Somewhere I Belong," Linkin Park

Thanks for this

It takes me back - not saying how far, mind you! It sounds like a big year - have a great 08, now.
