Agents of SHIELD Watch Guide
After seeing Captain America: The Winter Soldier, both
angearia and
per_aspera_ad_astra asked if they should watch Agents of SHIELD. Without spoiling, the end of the movie does indeed have some MAJOR repercussions for AoS that will likely make you curious how they'll handle it, even if you haven't watched or lost interest in the show long ago.
If anyone is looking to catch up, I've put together a guide of which episodes to watch and which to skip, so that you're up to date on the longer story arcs, but don't have to wade through all the mediocre stuff.
Full list under the cut. Minor AoS spoilers.
1. "Pilot" - Watch.
2. "0-8-4" - Skip. All you need to know is that "0-8-4" is a SHIELD code for "an object of unknown origin."
3. "The Asset" - Skip. It introduces Evil Rich Guy Ian Quinn, but frankly, when he pops up again, all you need to know is that he is an Evil Rich Guy.
4. "Eye Spy" - Skip. The episode introduces some technology that comes into play later, but it's not anything you can't figure out in context.
5. "Girl in the Flower Dress" - Up to you. I want to say skip, because this is a dumb episode, but it also introduces the character Raina, who pops up quite a bit in later episodes, and includes the first mention of the Clairvoyant. There's also the reveal that Skye - an orphan - is trying to find out about her parents, who had some connection to SHIELD.
6. "F.Z.Z.T." - Up to you. This is the first episode that attempts to develop one of the secondary characters (Simmons), and there is some hinting at what happened to Coulson, but it's not anything you can't pick up later.
7. "The Hub" - Watch. This ep introduces Agent Victoria Hand, who is going to be important later. There's also some slight character development for Ward and Fitz, more on the Skye parentage mystery, and a scene where Simmons hilariously shoots Agent Sitwell with a tranquilizer gun (which is even more satisfying in retrospect).
8. "The Well" - Skip. This is the Thor: The Dark World tie-in episode, but unless you really love Asgardian McGuffins, you're not missing anything.
9. "Repairs" - Skip.
10. "The Bridge" - Watch. This is when the season arcs start to kick in.
11. "The Magical Place" - Watch.
12. "Seeds" - Up to you. Watch if you care about Skye's mysterious backstory or always wanted to see what Hogwarts for SHIELD agents was like. Otherwise, it's skippable.
13. "T.R.A.C.K.S." - Watch.
14. "T.A.H.I.T.I." - Watch.
15. "Yes Men" - Watch, probably. This is the Sif episode, so it's mostly self-contained, but there is some arc-y stuff that sneaks in there.
16. "End of the Beginning" - Watch.
17. "Turn, Turn, Turn" - Watch, probably. It airs tonight, so I haven't seen it yet, but this is the post-Captain America ep, so I'm assuming shit will be getting real.
