The Controversial Survey
Snagged from pretty much everybody at this point. I'll be honest, I think a lot of these questions are stupid and/or poorly worded, and I think it shows in my answers...
1. Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?
Um, yes. Hence this post. Stupid question.
2. Would you do meth if it was legal?
No.
3. Abortion: for or against it?
I'm pro-choice. No one is "for abortion." I don't know of a single person who goes around saying, "Yay, abortion! We should have MORE abortions! Woo!" But I do believe women should have the option.
4. Do you think the world would fail with a female president?
No. Stupid question.
5. Do you believe in the death penalty?
No.
6. Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
No.
7. Are you for or against premarital sex?
For it. Would like to have more of it.
8. Do you believe in God?
Yes.
9. Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
Yes.
10. Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?
Yes, breaking the law is wrong. But maybe the problem isn't the people coming to the US, maybe the problem is the law.
11. A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?
That's not up to me. It's up to the girl and her parents. Stupid question.
12. Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?
No.
13. Should the war in Iraq be called off?
"Called off"? Like, we just pick up and leave tomorrow? "Sorry, war's canceled. Everybody go home." No, that's ridiculous. Should we have an exit strategy with a reasonable time frame? Yes.
14. Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
I disagree - that statement is wrong. It's legal in Oregon. Ohhh, you mean should it be illegal? No.
15. Do you believe in spanking your children?
I don't plan to have children. What other people do with their children is up to them, as long as it doesn't constitute abuse.
16. Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
That depends. Is a million dollars the going rate for properly disposing of old flags these days?
17. Who do you think would make a better president? McCain or Obama?
Obama.
18. Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
I really don't care, or I might've tried to give more of a supporting argument for them. If anyone wants to know my reasoning, feel free to ask me.

I can't see what's particularly brave about answering some of these questions - but then again, I work in government and most of my friends are political, so it's nothing unusual to have debates on these issues. Maybe other people who don't like to talk about "taboo" topics like politics and religion would find it more of a challenge to post this.
And once again, I find myself longing for an "eyeroll" icon, lol.

12 - I think we're too entrenched in our culture to make a change like this. High school and college binge drinking is already out of control, even though it's illegal for everyone but college seniors. A lot of people point to Europe and say, "Well, they have a lower drinking age, and kids have a more mature attitude because they're exposed to it at a younger age," which I'm not convinced is true - it seems that teenagers in Europe get into just as much trouble with binge drinking as Americans. But even if it is true, it's not that easy to just change a culture. The reason it's different in Europe (if it is) is because it's been like that for a long time. If you lower the drinking age in the US, we'll still have a culture of irresponsible teenagers, binge drinking, drunk driving, etc. That's not going to go away just because you've made it legal - all you've done is made it easier for them to have access.

I did drink when I was a teenager but I've never liked the taste or the feeling. I have been in cars with wasted teenagers so I suppose at least I can agree teenagers are idiots :D

I think that's the problem we face - that teenage mentality that you don't just drink a glass of wine because it tastes good, you have to drink as much as possible so you get drunk. They can't just treat it like any other beverage.
