2012 in review meme
Happy New Year! Snagged from
likeadeuce.
1) Was 2012 a good year for you?
Not really? I mean, not the worst year I've ever had, but not great, overall. I've felt like I was stuck in a rut, both personally and professionally, and here we are in 2013 and nothing really has changed, so the year feels kind of like a waste.
2) What was your favorite moment of the year?
Meeting Heidi.
3) What was your least favorite moment of the year?
Uh, probably the part where my boss tried to fire me for a ridiculous reason because he's an asshole?
4) Where were you when 2012 began?
At home, on my sofa, watching TV.
5) Who were you with?
Just me and my kitty.
6) Where will you be when 2012 ends?
LOL, the same as last year. I am apparently a lame person who doesn't do anything for New Year's anymore.
7) Who will you be with when 2012 ends?
Even Chelsea abandoned me. There were fireworks outside my window and she hid. I was chatting with
ever_neutral though, and she was giving me all the spoilers about 2013.
8) Did you keep your New Year's resolution of 2012?
I didn't make any, because I never keep them.
9) Did you break up with anyone in 2012?
In order to break up with someone, I'd have had to be in a relationship first. Unless avoiding guys I went on a couple dates with and didn't want to see again counts?
10) Did you make any new friends in 2012?
Real life friends, not really. I've made a few new friends here on DW, due to friending memes and such.
11) Who are your favorite new friends?
Not really "new" per se, because I knew most of them before, but my favorite people that I've gotten to know a lot better this year? Definitely the "starcrossed no more" gang.

12) What was your favorite month of 2012?
None of them really stands out? I guess whichever one my boss was on vacation the most.
13) Did you go abroad in 2012?
No. :(
14) How many different states did you travel to in 2012?
As a destination? Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York. I just drive through Delaware. And DC, obviously, since I work there.
15) Did you lose anybody close to you in 2012?
No.
16) Did you miss anybody in the past year?
I am sad that I didn't get to see
per_aspera_ad_astra this year (come visit meeeeeeee), but I talk to her almost every day, so that makes up for it.
17) What was your favorite movie that you saw in 2012?
Probably The Avengers? I only saw three movies in the theater this year (the others being The Hunger Games and Les Miserables), and I loved all three, but Avengers is the only one I didn't have ~expectations for, so it couldn't disappoint me, lol.
18) What was your favorite album from 2012?
Newsies OBC soundtrack and, squeaking in just under the wire, the Now. Here. This. soundtrack, which I listened to on the drive to NJ and back.
19) How many concerts did you see in 2012?
Three - I went to Shamrockfest with
mcmegan and saw Dropkick Murphys, the Kander & Ebb thing at the Kennedy Center, and Heidi Blickenstaff at Signature's Open House.
20) Did you have a favorite concert in 2012?
Heidi!
21) Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2012?
Nope. Not that I was ever a big drinker, but I've been drinking even less in the last few years.
22) Did you do a lot of drugs in 2012?
Only those prescribed to me by a licensed physician. :-P
23) Did you do anything you are ashamed of this year?
Not that I can recall? Possibly I have a lack of shame. No, that can't be right, I am nothing BUT shame. Maybe I've just blocked it out of my memory.

24) What was the biggest lie you told in 2012?
None in particular stands out. I've never been a very good liar, so I don't usually try.
25) What was the worst lie someone told you in 2012?
If anyone's lied to me, I haven't found out yet...
26) Did you treat somebody badly in 2012?
Only people who deserved it. :-P
27) Did somebody treat you badly in 2012?
LOL my boss.
28) How much money did you spend in 2012?
More than I made, I think. :-/
29) What was your most embarrassing moment of 2012?
Uh.... the time I accidentally farted in pilates class...
30.) What is one thing you did in 2012 that you'd never done before?
I got a massage. How did I go this long without them??
31.) Did someone close to you give birth?
I don't know. Maybe? I've lost track.
32.) What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
A better job! One that pays me enough to live on, and with a boss who isn't a jerk. Oh, and I'd like a boyfriend, preferably one who also isn't a jerk.
33.) What dates from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I'm not great at remembering dates. I can barely remember people's birthdays.
34.) What was your biggest achievement of the year?
This was not a particularly achievementy year.
35.) What was your biggest failure?
I don't know... I'm trying not to consider my ongoing job search a personal failure, because bad economy and blah blah blah, but it's been, like, a year and a half. It's depressing.
36.) Did you suffer illness or injury?
Well, there was that time I cut my hand in the kitchen, passed out, and hit my head on the refrigerator on the way down. I woke up five minutes later to find I had bled all over myself, with no idea how I'd ended up on the floor. There is a big-ass dent in the fridge now.
37.) What was the best thing you bought?
New piano! Although technically, my parents bought it, with the money they got from selling my old one.
38.) Whose behavior merited celebration?
Uh... I don't know?
39.) Whose behavior made you appalled?
My boss. The Republican Party. Congress as a whole. Most of the internet. Certain specific people who shall remain nameless because this is a public post.
40.) Where did most of your money go?
Frivolous stuff like the mortgage, condo fees, food, insurance, transportation...
41.) What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Going to New York with Christi. The summer vacation I planned (which didn't actually happen, but I was excited for the brief period I thought I was going). Seeing Heidi.
42.) Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder?
Well, definitely not happier, so I guess sadder. Bitter and depressed is probably more accurate, though, lol.
b) thinner or fatter?
Ugh, fatter. I seriously need to do something to lose weight, if for no other reason than I can't afford to keep buying bigger clothes.
c) richer or poorer?
Poorer.
43.) What do you wish you'd done more of?
Exercised. Been social. Made new friends. Left my apartment.
44.) What do you wish you'd done less of?
Online dating.
45.) How did you spend Christmas?
With my family.
46.) Did you fall in love in 2012?
Only with fictional characters and occasionally the actors that play them.
47.) Any one-night stands?
Nope.
48.) What was your favorite TV program?
Breaking Bad for quality, and The Vampire Diaries for the communal freaking out.
49.) Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate requires too much energy. I prefer apathy.
50.) What was the best book you read?
According to my Goodreads ratings, Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson. It's the only book I gave 5 stars to this year. It was also in January, so maybe I've gotten harsher with my ratings, lol. I also quite enjoyed the Gone series by Michael Grant.

Jeremy Jordan
52.) What did you want and get?
A new car!
53.) What did you want and not get?
A new job.

I turned 28. My mom took me to Williamsburg.
55.) What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I don't know how many different ways I can keep saying it: NEW JOB. Seriously, that would take care of SO MUCH.
56.) How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
Whatever still fits. :(
57.) What kept you sane?
Zoloft. Kittens.
58.) Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Chris Evans. Jeremy Renner. Robert Downey, Jr. Aaron Paul. Jeremy Jordan. Aaron Tveit. Heidi Blickenstaff. Jennifer Lawrence. Candice Accola.

59.) What song will always remind you of 2012?
Anything from Newsies or Now. Here. This.
60.) Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012.
People suck.
61.) Quote a song lyric that sums up the year.
LOL I feel like something from Les Miserables would be appropriate, but also maudlin? So. Now. Here. This.:
If only I were wiser
If only I were bolder
If only I were faster
I could outrun the voice that says
That'll never be me

I'm sorry it hasn't been a great year for you and I wish you good things in the next.
I don't know where you are in Virginia but if you ever want to have coffee or something in Richmond let me know :)
no subject
I'm up in Alexandria, but I've never been to Richmond, and I kind of feel like I should check it out sometime. I will let you know if I make it out to your neck of the woods!
no subject
If you head to Richmond, I'm only about an hour and a half away!
About the other comments about meeting cute boys- you should come to Scotland in August and find a cute boy there!
Sorry your job sucks. I'm kind of hating my job right now too. This one girl took over as head tech, and makes the schedule however the hell she wants it (like she doesn't work any weekends this month?). And working with the head doctor (owner/boss) usually sucks because she makes you feel stupid or tries to tell you how to do your job, or gives you stupid busy work to do. Unfortunately there don't seem to be many openings around here, and I've nearly given up hope of ever getting a zoo job.

Heh, perhaps, although I have not had much luck seducing English or Irish boys, or that one American boy living in Wales... The British Isles are not kind to my love life.
I am still trying to figure out the wedding thing. :( I want to be there, but it's so expensive and I also don't want to wait until the last minute to decide, so you can invite someone else if I don't go. You're still having a US reception, right?
Sorry your job sucks, too. Maybe we should quit our jobs and become entrepreneurs or something?
no subject
(Anonymous) 2013-01-16 05:31 am (UTC)(link)And don't worry about waiting too long. I've already had my grandmom and uncle back out, so I invited friends in their spot. Then those friends couldn't go, so I asked some other friends who aren't sure they can afford it. Seamus's friends on the other hand, apparently aren't all broke.
We should just quit our jobs and invent something stupid that will make us rich. However, I did get 2 job offers today! One was at a (tiny) zoo, but it would require me to move to northern Virginia, and get paid slightly less that what I get now, while paying probably double (at least) the rent I pay now. With an upcoming wedding, I don't think that will happen (even with the promise that they're getting giraffes!). The other one is at a different vet clinic down here, which I think I'm going to take. I just hope my work friends won't hate me.

Ugh, job hunting. I'm sorry that's such a persistent bummer, man. Let's hope luck changes this year.
