I think you were reading Sideways, but I wasn't on LJ for a good portion of the time I was writing it. And even after I was, it took me a loooong time to figure out, lol.

BtVS: Oh dear heavens. How much time do you have? lol

I probably have thought about this one more than any other fandom ever, purely because of (1) reading/writing fics that explore the results of changing certain things, and (2) lots and lots of meta discussion of its flaws.

Strictly big-picture things, though, I would change the Initiative arc in S4 - way more focus on Maggie Walsh and the ethics of it, and get rid of Adam entirely. Oh, and pretty much the entire structure of S7. More focus on the Scoobies, less on the Potentials, give Xander and Dawn actual character arcs, make the First an actually scary Big Bad.

And, because it's on my mind thanks to Gabs' poll, I would change the way the narrative handled the Buffy/Riley breakup, so that we got a real counterpoint to the idea that it wasn't actually all Buffy's fault. :-P Also, "As You Were" would not exist unless it turned out Sam was a robot. Oh, and I'd fix the AR. No idea how, mind you, but I'd fix that shit.
