Musical Sunday!

Typically, I use this space to talk about the love of my life (musical theater), but I got all caught up in the Jersey pride thing that I decided to do something a little different today.

Oh, sure, I could've posted something about Jersey Boys, but... I've never seen Jersey Boys, and the soundtrack is basically just Four Seasons songs, so it's not like I'd be enlightening the masses or anything, you know? (But my parents saw Jersey Boys and they said it was great, so there's my plug for the day.)

Instead, I'm going to post my favorite JERSEY SONGS.

"I'm From New Jersey," by John Gorka. FINALLY, someone has captured my inferiority complex in song!

"New Jersey Girl," by Nerf Herder. Yep, the ones who did the Buffy theme song.

"Jersey Girl," by Tom Waits. Also check out covers by Jersey boys Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi.

"Ocean City Girl," by Ivy. I have actually listened to this song while driving to Ocean City, which amused me. :)

Has anyone written songs about where you're from? (No love for New York and California - everybody writes songs about them!)

I have an unfair advantage, given where I live. Yes, there have been one or two songs written about this town. :-) This is one of my favourites:

ROLFCOPTER. :-)

Also, I think I heard a bit of The Jam influence in that song...

I'm a fan of Ivy through the band's Fountains of Wayne connection, so I'm glad that song got into the playlist!

The Clash rock out loud! One of the best bands ever and I don't listen to them near enough. That video has put a huge smile on my face

I'm a CD girl still and I really like 90% of their songs on their second and third CDs. On Utopia Parkway, I love "Red Dragon Tattoo" and "It Must Be Summer." On Welcome Interstate Managers, I love "Bright Future in Sales," "Valley Winter Song," and, oh, heck, I'm looking at the entire thing and saying, I love that song, and that one...Some are funny and some are poignant, but they all have great pop hooks and catchy lyrics. I love "Fire Island." Both CDs reminds me of summer. Traffic and Weather us a bit less successful.

I was trying to decide between the Clash and the Pogues, then I remembered that Worldcon 2014 vid, and that made the choice for me... :-)
