Exercise in futility

So, new job, right? New commute. Been at it almost two weeks now. Every day, I leave work at 5pm. Every day, I take the Metro to the bus station (which should be a 10 minute ride, but often ends up being longer due to slow-downs and delays). Every day, I haul ass through the Metro station (running up two escalators), so I can make the 5:23 bus. And every day, I manage to miss it by a couple minutes. Oh well, I figure, a month of this and my legs will look amazing.

Today, I decide, "Screw it. I'm tired. I'm not gonna kill myself when I know I'm not gonna make it anyway." I leave work at my usual 5pm and walk leisurely to the Metro, where there is a 4 minute wait for a train. This is a little longer than my usual wait time. I get off at the bus station and actually ride the escalator, rather than running like a deranged Olympic sprinter in high heels. And, lo and behold, I make the 5:23 bus.

I think there's a lesson in this, folks.

Laziness is its own reward? Overachievers never prosper? Good things come to those who don't give a damn? The Metro is run by a cruel fairy who likes to play mind games with you?
