I did not get to see the alternate ending. I had it bookmarked while I was on vacation, but apparently it got yanked before I could watch it.

My understanding is that it is basically the same, except it ends before the reveal that the Mother is dead and Ted goes after Robin. So you could probably get the same effect by watching the episode and just turning it off 5 minutes before the end?
