That West Wing article! I know sooooo many people who ended up in Washington because of TWW. I even know some people who aren't in Washington yet, but whose career paths have been picked out because of that show. (There is a Will/Toby out there, still running mostly-unsuccessful congress races, hoping eventually to bet on the right horse and make it to DC, or to get enough experience to work for an incumbent.) And of course - the ways it is exciting to live in DC because your life feels like a reflection of the show, even if it isn't. :)

Hahaha, I know! And of course, my goal is to make my life resemble the show as much as possible, lol.

(In seriousness, I do still dream about working in the White House... someday...)

I wonder if other people have the same experience I did, though. Because of TWW, I came into politics with a LOT more idealism than I might have otherwise, and it was definitely a letdown to experience real life politics. (Sometimes I feel like my job is completely pointless.) Then again, I'm not sure anything could have prepared me for the complete and utter dysfunction that is this Congress. :-P
