I'm Freeeeee

For two weeks, at least, now that my class is done. And my boss is on vacation for most of next week, which means lots of TV watching. I finished The Office (UK), which I have to say, got harder and harder to watch. The special was just horribly unpleasant. Definitely, definitely voting for the US version as the superior Office.

I'm now watching Six Feet Under. I'd seen season 1 before, and rewatching it reminded me of how much I LOVED IT. I love every single one of the Fishers and their fucked-up lives so very, very much. Onto season 2 now, which I started long ago, but for some reason never finished. The funny thing about it is that originally I didn't have any impressions of the actors except for Peter Krause's role on Sports Night (which I loved), but this time around, nearly everyone is from some other show. Peter Krause's now on Parenthood, Michael C. Hall's on Dexter, Rachel Griffiths is on Brothers and Sisters, and Lauren Ambrose I need to watch more of because damn, she is awesome. I was impressed with MCH's range watching Dexter, when I knew him as David, and now it's happening again in reverse. Also, I don't hate Brenda as much as I did last time around, but I still find Sarah Walker to be infinitely more tolerable.

I've also started - dun dun dun - Lost. Thus far I've only seen the two-part pilot, so I don't have many thoughts, but I do have kind of a funny story. So, I'm watching the beginning, right, when Jack the Super Doctor is trying to save everyone all at once, and there's that dumb guy with the pens. And I'm like, "Oh, pen guy, you're so dumb. But kind of pretty, in that CW 'even more young and pretty than the rest of TV' kind of way. He totally belongs on a CW show." And then the credits come up and I realize it's Ian Somerhalder. LOL! Clearly he took my advice.

The weird thing about Lost is that I'm kind of vaguely spoiled - because it's pretty much impossible to avoid picking up at least some things when you're dealing with a pop culture phenomenon like this. But most of it makes ABSOLUTELY NO FUCKING SENSE, so I'm just over here recognizing some of the characters (though apparently not Ian, lol) and knowing vague, random things about polar bears and statues with four toes and Jack/Kate/Sawyer triangles and sideways universes and UnLocke and it's the most bizarre not-really-spoiled state ever.

Ooh, and I got a package today with my Season 8 Soda! Which means there's probably going to be a taste test post in the near future. Like, this weekend, maybe?

As a person that watched Lost religiously, your spoilers spoil nothing! That show was so WTF so much of the time that even knowing huge plot points sometimes wouldn't help.

I was away from TV for two weeks! Rescue Me, The Closer, Project Runway, Top Chef, White Collar, Burn Notice, Being Erica, Eureka...man, I really do watch too much TV if I can't leave without recording eighteen shows and three movies.

The sodas are hilarious. Get back to us on their flavor. I have a couple Duffs and Buzz sodas from The Simpsons Movie. The Duffs were a locally brewed beer with cool printed labels. I think Buzz was Pepsi.

I watched Lost all the way through from the very first episode, and it still makes absolutely no fucking sense. :-P

But most of it makes ABSOLUTELY NO FUCKING SENSE,

Hee! That's lost. It specializes in WTF?! It's either embrace the WTF or loathe it. :)

My recommendation: don't take LOST too seriously and enjoy it for what it is. Above all, don't make the mistake of thinking anything means anything at all.

I almost ordered the soda, but the shipping costs made me back out in a hurry! I look forward to your report!

Your giving me SFU nostalgia, but a rewatch is going to have to wait. So much TV, so little time...

Six Feet Under is deeply amazing. Although it is not one of my very top fav shows in terms of my emotional connection to it (though I do love it), it is one of the two shows that I consider the strongest overall by more objective measures (the other is The Wire).

And Lost! Oh...Lost. I'll be interested to see what you think of it -- my feelings about it are SO tied to my experience of it as something I watched over six years, so I find hearing about how people feel about it when watching it all at once really interesting. It's a crazy, crazy show with a lot of flaws, but there are so many great things about it, too. My only suggestion to you is to focus more on the characters than the crazy plot -- I think it works better that way.

But yeah, it's a pretty hard show to spoil (other than character deaths, I guess), since it's hard to know exactly what's going on even when you've been watching it, so it's hard to pick up coherent spoilers.

I need to watch Six Feet Under.

And then the credits come up and I realize it's Ian Somerhalder.

He belongs on the CW! It was fated!

LOST is one wild, intense ride. I hope it's one you'll enjoy.

I posted about my reactions to the soda a few days ago. I look forward to reading your reactions to them :).

There's a reason you don't remember Ian. It's because he's lame.

(I watched LOST faithfully until the end of S3, and gave up. But I share you Sayid- and Hurley-love all the way!)

Oh you make me want to start watching SFU again...

Watching Dexter after years of seeing MCH in SFU was amazing...
Peter Krause was in Dirty Sexy Money as well. :)

I never got into Lost...
